Council responded to Goderich's
resolution to oppose the ministry
of defense's purchase of nuclear
submarines, even though some
councillors expected the purchase
would take place anyway.
"The more of us who sign some-
thing like this means they might
take notice of it," said councillor l
Peter Groot.
Council supported the resolution
that cites nuclear submarines as not
preventing nuclear war nor protect-
ing Canada in event of nuclear war.
Hensall council will recognize
April 10-15 as Local Government
Week and will drawup a program
to encourage participation of school
children. The province has sug-
gested councils make students
aware of the jobs and responsibili-
ties of council and municipal staff,
the fire department and the school
board.
Council did not express much en-
thusiasm about setting up a com-
mittee to plan the week's activities,
but Phair said this was the only al-
ternative council had to prepare a
program in less than a month.
"It's either this or we forget about
it," said Pharr.
Reaburn agreed and volunteered
for the committee and Pepper
joined as the second representative.

Works superintendent John Bak-

suggested council was never asked
to close the short, dead-end section

"At that particular time it was
Wellington Street they were trying

this Richmond Street idea came
from," said Baker, noting the com-

said he thought the approval was

The matter has been referred to
