Hold Kub Kar rallies
LUCAN - On February 28, the
Annual Kub Kar Rally was held in
Lucan. The night was a complete
success with parents, Beavers and
Cubs, Cubs, Cubs in attendance.
Kub Kars are a project which fa-
ther and son created a car to race
from a block of wood, four nails .
(for axles) four wheels and stickers.
There is plenty of yelling and.
cheering as the boys put their cars
on the 32 foot wooden track. The
Starter pulls the lever and they're
off. •
Three judges, Doug Halliday,
Dave Pike and Tcrry Pike sit at the
end and determine which car came
first, second and third.
After tallying all the points of
the heats, Jason Mawdsley came
first (the third in a row), Danny
McGuire second, Scott Chatterson,
third.
The leader also raced and any par-
ents who had a car. The results were
as follows: Terry Mawdsley first,
Dave Mawdsley, second, Earl
Frcnch third.
After the Lucan Kub Kar Rally, it
was on to District.
Saturday, March 4 at. Goderich
102 Cubs with their parents and
leaders braved the weather to go to
the annual District Kub Car Rally.
• After all the heats and the points
were tallied, Jason Mawdsley (Lu -
can) came first, Scott Snell (Gode-

ents and leaders.

Lucan 4-H
LUCAN - On March 6, 1989,
-the 4-H club of Lucan #3 visited
the home of Willy Drost to learn
about the hand processing of wool.
Mr. and' -Mrs. Drost are sheep
farmers. In Willys spare time she
hand spins wool.
o woo s c showed us pictures
breeds of sheep used for spinning
wool. Throughout this visit we
Were shown the several steps of
processing wbol, teasing, carding,
and spinning, each of which. We
were able to try on our own.
' We were able to see two methods
of hand spinning wool the drop
spindle (an _old unpopular way of
spinning) and the spinning wheel
(more conventional and quicker way
of spinning).
Although we were unable to dye
we were shown wool which had
been dyed using many different
dyes.
After showing us the process of
wool we were shown some gar-
ments made from wool both kn1itted
and weaved.
Lucan #3 would like to thank
Willy Drost for her time and inter-
esting demonstration.
