Topics covered include - A System Approach - Where to Start a Cropping Sequences - Adjusting. Tillage to Soil Type - Weed Con- trol - Barry Gordon - Fertility. The meeting will finish with an open discussion with a farm panel. The farm panel members are Doug Smith - Ridge Till; Laurence Tay- lor - Conventional; and Jerry Jaretz- ke - Mulch Till. The meeting will be held on March 14, 1989 at the White Car- nation, Holmesville. It will begin at 9:45 p.m. running until approxi- mately 3:30 p.m. A fee of 55 is re- quired to cover the cost of lunch. The successes "of these attempts were variable. People with some prior experience faired well yet peo- ple in their 1st •or 2nd year had some problem. These problems in part can be attributed to climate, but on the whole poor crop perfor- mance was a result of missing one of the keys to a conservation man- agement package. Conventional systems have taken years to master and refine. Adopt- ing a conservation system can't be jumped into without some mis- takes. What you can do to limit your problems is to learn from others. KW Farmers Club has KIRKTON The Kirkton- Wocdham Farmers Club enjoyed a very successful year in 1989. • A: Friday's annual meeting, pres- ident John Simpson said the club hit the $2 million mark in sales for on of the few times in its 72 years of existence. Simpson said the club is one of the oldest of its kind in the prov- ince of Ontario. He added, ' The aim of our club is to get the. best price possible for our members. The gross margin of sales of $2, 091,044 was $151,657. Of this amount $116,8838 is being re- turned to club members as rebates. The total rebate a year earlier was $97,687. The club now has an accumulated surplus of $185,691 with $547 coming from the 1988 operation!'' Secretary treasurer Ron Grant told members that club suppliers are again offering cash discounts similar to other years. Any members prepaying money by May 15 will receive a three per- cent discount in effect at that time and a two percent discount will be offered on money prepaid by June 15. , Grant said seed grain, soybeans and white bean seed may be picked up at Thompson's in Granton, Mitchell and Hensall; Cook's in Kirkton; Lorne Fell's in Staffa and the Co -Op in Rannoch. Fertilizers may be picked up at the same locations plus Thomp- son's in Kirkton and the Exeter CO- OP. Salaries were set for 1989. Secre- tary treasurer Ron Grant will receive $15,000 per annum and his assist- nat Jack Wiles will get $6,000. Board of management members will receive $35 per meeting excluding the annual meeting and the record- ing secretary will get $50 per meet- ing including the annual session. The interest rate on overdue ac- counts will increase to one and one- half percent per month. Members.
