Granton residents enjoy

GRANTON - About 200 people
attended the annual oyster supper at.
the Masonic, Hall on Saturday eve-
ning, March 4th.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins
attended the open house for Mrs:
Elsie Blackleg s 90th birthday held
at the Kirkton .Community Centre
on Sunday -afternoon. •
Dani Roloson, son of Don and
Irene Roloson, is operations soft-
ware programmer for the math fa-
tuity computing facility at the Uni-
versity of Waterloo. Dani . is also
the driving force behind U.W.
Scrabble players, club, a group
which is loosely -associated with
the Games Scrabble Club, the -
group will need a recognized direc-
tor who has passed a special test,
something Mr. Roloson may yet
do. The game apparently has be-
come modernized and lends itself to
computer wisdom.

Church on Sunday, . March 5th the
Rev. Be\..;rley Wheeler's message
was about the parable of the prodi-
gal son. The lessons were read by
Roy Moore and the minister. -"A :
time of fellowship followed the ser-
vice.
The youth .group met at the
church on Sunday afternoon.
Roy Moore, Cathie Westman and
Muriel Lewis attended the Great
Chapter meeting at St._ James An-
glican Church, St. Marys, on Tues-
day evening, February 28th.
At the Granton United Church on
Sunday, the Rev. Bruce Pierce's ser -
"mon was entitled The Meaning of
the Resurrection for today. The les-
sons were from Isaiah 55 and Luke
24. Paula Wallis was the bulletin
steward.
World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer service
was held on Friday evening, March
3 at the United Church. The thcme
of the service was Lord, Tcach us to
pray, prepared by thc Christian
Women of Burma. Taking part in
the readings were Ruth Cook, Mar-
garet Bryan, Irene Roloson, Edith
Eaton, Carolyn Walden, and Pat
Harlton.
A skit and song pertaining to the
theme and the traditions of Burma
were presented by Kelly Waters, -
Jean Bryan, Lisa Humphrey, Berna-
dine Kop, Lyndsay Thornton,.Jua-
nita Kop, Carolyn Bryan, Susan
-Bryan and Benny Kop.
Special music wasprovided by
- Paula Wallis in a solo entitled-
. "Goodness"-, and by the pianist Ann.
Bryan who sang the Lord's Prayer.
Willa Harding and Shirley Ban-
nerman received the offering.

Unit one met at the home of
Madeline Hardie on Thursday after-
noon, March 2nd. A hymn was
sung and president Dorcen McRo-
bert gave the lesson thoughtson
the theme "That's my cross, I
guess," based on Matthew 16, verse
The business discussion included
the World Day of Prayer, the Sun-
rise breakfast and some other fund-
raising events:

Unit four met at the Nora Wis-
sel's home on Wednesday evenings,
•March 1. The leader Marilyn Hum-
phrey presided and opened with a
reading Heaven, Our Source of.
Supply, based a Galatians 4, clos-
ing with prayer. Mrs. Humphrey
• also read from the Mandate about
the Fragile Garden, concerning the
environment and the damages man
has done. Following prayer and the
grace, Mrs. Wissel served refresh-
ments.

in May and some spring cleaning at.
the church- was discussed. At the
,close of the meeting, the hostess
served lunch:

-The ladies of Court Valentine
Forester's Lodge met at the park pa-
vilion room on Tuesday evening,
February 28. President Edith
Youngson led the business when
donations were made to the Brown
ids, Girl Guides and Pathfinders and
-to the Paraplegic Fund. Plans were
also made for the Brother Judd Mil-
burn night in April.
Dorothy Hern and Marjorie Mills
were in charge of serving the Lion's
Club supper on February 22nd.
The spoon draw was won by
Marjorie Mills.
Lunch was served by Olive (K.)

4-H Club
The Granton 4-H club the B -a -a-
a -d Bunch held their third meeting
at the home of Sylvia and Melanie
Beatson on Thursday evening, Feb-
ruary 23. The president Kelly
Thompson opened with the 4-H
pledge.
The roll call was answered by
each member telling their choice
for a knitting project, etc. The
meeting plan was reviewed and the
girls tried increasing and decreasing
stitches and eventually started their
second sampler.
Arrangements were made for the
next meeting and appreciation ex-
pressed to leader Deanna Beatson,
after which refreshments were
served.
-The forth 4-H club meeting was
also held at the Beatson home on
.Thursday evening, March 2. After
the pledge and roll all, the home ac-
tivity was taken up. Leader Deanna
• Beatson then demonstrated how to
press the sampler and different ways
of finishing a project. A game
called Wooly Words Relay was
played, when knitting terms were
matched to definitions. The wool
label activity was completed at their
knitting.
Plans were made for the next
meeting and thanks expressed to
eader Deanna Bealson and to Barba -
:a Moore for helping.

Suzanne Davis on the birth of
twins, Starr and Travis, at St. Jo-
seph's Hospital February 28. Best
wishes to each of them.
Mrs. Voyle Jordan entertained a
group of friends to her apartment
Friday afternoon to honor Murray
Carter on his 80th birthday.
Mrs. Dorothy Dietrich, Dash-
wood, baby sat Harley Davis while
his mother Suzanne was in hospital
and she is now spending a few days
with Suzanne.
