Hensall Legion winners - Twelve competitors delivered their best
speeches last Tuesday evening at the Hensall Legion and these
students were presented with trophies by Legion chairman Jerry

ZURICH - Although. Heritage day
is not Widely observed by many
places of business, it is one of our
statutory holidays, therefore the col-
umn did not get written last week.
We hope_ you missed it.
Some of the residents baked
cookies on "Tuesday morning in
- preparation for a tea party held un-
der the direction of Patti Regier and
Catherine Shantz during the after-
noon.
Many of the residents enjoyed
the movie "Sound of Music" in the
west wing sittingroom on Wed-
nesday afternoon. -
Residents who arc- presently in
South Huron Hospital Exeter, are
Mrs. Matilda Bassow, Mr. Milton
Ocsch and Mr. Francis Kipper. We
wish them a :speedy recover.
Our residents hosted a party on
Thursday afternoon for some of the
residents of the Queensway Nurs-
ing Home, Hensall. Card games
and crokinole and visiting were fol-
lowed by refreshments. We thank
Carol Gascho and her volunteers
for taking the time to bring them.
On _Friday.afternoon, a group of
interested people gathered at a pub-
lic meeting here in the auditorium
when the Hon. Jack Riddell
M.P.P. for Huron, announced
funding by the province for the
renovation and addition to the rest
home.
Sunday evening, the chapel ser-
vice was conducted by Rev. Doug-
las Wright of Hensall United
Church.
Top fundraisers - The Hensall Figure Skating Club boasts of a
good fundraising season, keeping the club operating despite its
reduced enrollment. The club honored these three members as
their.best_fundraisers in the skate-a-thon and cheese sales. Karrie
Consitt (left) raised $615.99 for the club. Leann Consitt raised
$1077.81 and Katie Rathwell raised $693.75.

CROMARTY - The Marian
Ritchie W.M.S. met in the church
basement on- Tuesday afternoon
with Agnes Lamond .presiding: Ro-
berta Templeman based the .wor-
ship• service on the theme, Love,
and read Psalm 103:8-17, followed.
by a meditation and prayer. The
roll call, a country in Southern -AL,
rica, was answered by"12-Mtrintte"r's.
Agnes' Lamond had the topic and
read the story of a dam in South
Africa that was built for "Peanuts",
followed by a poem, A Christian
Garden.
Thc third chapter of the study
book, The Church.(in South Afri-
ca) struggles for its soul, was pre-
sented by Edna Stoneman.
The early Africans believed that
powers and spirits -worked through
nature, but never talked about the
Supreme Being that tins honoured.
When the first white men came,
the Africans had the land and the
Europeans had the Bible. Soon the
Europeans had the land and the Af-
ricans had the Bible.
When the Apartheid policy was
formed, the majority of church

was wrong, remained passive and
uninvolved.
Hazel Harburn presided for the
business when it was decided to

Synodical Expense Fund.
The Presbyterian annual meeting
will be held in Knox Church,
Stratford, on March 7, with ses-
sions at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The World Day of Prayer service
will be held in Hibbert United
Church on March 3 at 2 p.m. All
thG women and children of the con-
gregation arc invited to the Good
Friday dinner and/or meeting on
March 24 at 12:30.
The meeting closed with unison
prayer and a hymn. •

of HPS and top senior Victoria Bisback also from Hensall. Missing
is Jamie Ramer from Zurich. Bisback and Campbell will attend
the zone finals in Clinton on March 4.
Hensall Scouting
groups planning
clean-up program

HENSALL - The Hensall Bea-
vers,
eavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers
held their annual parent -son ban-
quet last Thursday evening at the
Hensall Legion hall.
The following evening the Cubs
travelled to' Vanastra for a session
of swimming at their pool. The
cubs have also been keeping busy
lately with clothes pin crafts while
the Beavers have been making bird
feeders.
The Scouts have welcomed Mer-
vyn Fields back as one of their
leaders.
All three scouting groups arc
presently planning a clean-up pro-
ject for the Black Creek. This will
be in addition to the annual "pitch -
in" on April 29 when they will all
be out cleaning up the village.
Parents are invited to attend the
next meeting of the Scouting
Group Committee on March 29 at
8:15 p.m.
United Church
The Church made their special
offering of bagged corn to the Ca-
nadian Food Grains Bank. This
corn will be sent half -way around
the world to Mozambique.
The congregation's children have
also made an offering to the Bible
Society, funds which will find their
way to Peru.
Thc afternoon ladies group will
be meeting at 2:30 p.m. on March
2. The World Day of Prayer will
be March 3 at 2 p.m. with guest
speaker Rev. Mark Gaskin.
The new Friendship Circle is
meeting on March 6 at 1:30 to hear
guest speaker Linda Reid R.N.
Shuffleboard
Eileen Dowson's score of 331 set
the mark- on February 21, followed
by George Dowson's 308, Walter
Davis at 259, Dave Kyle's 246, and
Lorna Spencer at 238.
