GRANTON - Congratulations to
Sylvia Beatson and Jennifer Reymer
of the Granton 4H Club who placed
third in the Ontario Cattlemen's As-
sociation 4H Beef Display Compe-
tition, open to all 4H members in
Ontario.
Displays were judged on a coun-
try level and Sylvia's and Jennifer's
display was chosen to represent
Middlesex County.
Final judging took place February
22 at the Ontario Cattlemen's Asso-
ciation Annual Convention held at
the Constellation Hotel in Toronto.
Sylvia and Jennifer received a
cheque for S100 in prize money for
third place. Their display was enti-
tled "Bodies Love Beef'.
A section of road which runs be-
tween concessions 14 and 15 in
Biddulph township near Highway 7,
has been closed since Wednesday
February 22. An oil spread to lay
the dust on the road has caused
much concern, and tests for harmful
substances are being evaluated by
the Ministry of the Environment.
Muriel Lewis accompanied by
Marie McGuffin, Thorndale, attend-
ed an outreach seminar, sponsored
by Elgin Women's Institutes, and
held at. Southwold Public School,
St. Thomas on Saturday, February
25.
At St. Thomas' Anglican Church
on Sunday, February 26, Rev. Be-
verley Wheeler led the service and
spoke about the ability to find God
in the ordinary. The lessons were
read by Scott Hodgins and the mini-
ster.
AT Granton United Church on
Sunday, February 26, Rev. Bruce
Pierce's message was entitled "The
Suffering Saviour's Shout of
Triumph". The lessons were taken
from Isaiah 52 and 53 and John 19.

The youth group .met at the
church on Sunday afternoon and
then went sw ming.
Grton WI
The Granton Women's Institute
enjoyed an outing to the Lucan
Bowling Lanes on Tuesday after-
noon February 21. On arrival, Flor-
ence Riddell presided for a short
meeting when the roll call was an-
swered with a blues chaser.
The program topic was public re-
lations. Donations were made to the
4H club and the Salvation Army, as
well as arrangements for the next
meeting.
After bowling three games, Nora
Wissel and Muriel Lewis served
lunch.
Granton 4-H club
The second meeting of the Gran-
ton 4-H club was held on Thursday
evening, February 16 at the home
of the leader Deanne Beatson. After
opening with the 4-1-1 pledge, the
minutes were read and it was decided
to name the club the B -a -a -d Bunch.
Members answered the roll call by
describing their progress knitting
on their samples at home. Arrange-
ments were made for the next meet-
ing and the home activity taken up.
The girls then worked on knitting
concepts like ribbing, changing co-
lour and binding off. They also
talked about what to consider when
choosing their final project.
Appreciation was expressed to
leader Deanna Beatson, hostess Syl-
via Beatson and to Cathie Westman
and Marlene French for helping
with the knitting. -
The meeting was closed with the
4-H motto and juice and cookies
were served.
