The Provincial Ministry..of Cul- ture and Communications commis- sioned Canadian Artist; Barbara Reid, to create artwork for publicity materials to promote County Li- braries. The original artwork, as well as the colourful poster and bookmarks designed by Barbara Reid, will be on display at the li- brary. Barbara Reid often uses the unu- sual medium of plasticine to create stunping illustrations for children's books.. She has won numerous awards for her work including: The Canada .Council Prize, 1986; The IODE Illustrator's Award, 1986; The Ruth Scwartz Award, 1986; The Elizabeth Cleaver Award, 1987; The Ezra Jack Keats Award, 1987. The children's books she has illustrated include: New Baby, Calf,, Merkel-VandenBoomen Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Merkel were married on October 15, 1988 in St. Boniface Church, Zurich by Father Peter Hayes. They are now • residing at R.R.1, St. Pauls, Ontario. ' Jeff .and Mary would like . to thank everyone for making their day so special. Exeter Vitra EXETER - Hello from everyone at the Villa. By the time you read this we will know whether March came in like a lamb or a lion. Happy birthday this week to Gla- dys Brightrall and staff member Irene Kenney. Best wishes to both. Residents enjoyed watching the musical Oklahoma. Unfortunately the show in the lodge was interrupt- ed due to technical problems. Hope- fully we will be able to watch it again at a later date: Rev.1-Iawlcy of the Exeter United Church conducted our weekly wor- ship services.' The service in the lodge was our monthly communion service. We are looking forward to using the new hymn books pur- chased by the Exctcr and arca mini- sterial. The Lioness hosted their month- ly program last Wednesday even- ing. Thanks to the Coolman chil- dren for the lovely music. We appreciate the ladies leaving the tape of the Fair Parade and Santa Claus parade. We shall enjoy watching it in the near future. The Calvinettes visited las. Thursday evening. We were pleased to see them as they were stormed out last time. The girls had a few songs and played bingo with sever- al residents. Thanks girls for the bingo prizes. • Our Thursday bakers made cereal cookies for bingo. Residents enjoy tasting their baking projects and I know the staff -enjoy tasting as well. Our ladies prepared a cake for our .monthly birthday party as well. February birthdays in the nursing home were Jim Riley and Malty Aho. There was a little monckying around in the lodge on Saturday night. We had an excellent turnout. at Banana Bridge. Staff and residents wish to ex- press their sympathy to staff mem- ber Betty MacGregor and her fami- ly in their recent loss. Out thoughts and prayers are with Betty al this time. Thought for the week: A loving smile adds a lot to your face value. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and began her career illustrat- ing text books: She has written, as well as il4tstrated, the recently pub- lished book, Playing With Plasti- cine. Everyone is invited tovisit the Kirkton Branch Library and see the original artwork while it is on dis- play. The Display will be touring Huron County Branch Librariesdur- ing February and March. A Plasticine Workshop .will be held at the Kirkton Branch Library on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m., from children aged 7 - 10. Regis- tration is limited to 15. A small charge of 50 cents- will go towards materials. Children at the work- shop will learn how to "pant" their own pictures usitlg plasticine and create one to take home. Lioness donate - Liz Bell made a donation from the Exeter Lioness Club at the Sports Celebrity dinner to Gaie Haydon, from the Thames Valley Treatment Centre.
