Guides, Brownies, Pathfinders
and other. Guiding groups engage
in many activities to raise money.
In. Exeter, the groups hold a joint
Penny Carnival annually to collect
the pennies. Although it is impor-
tant to raise money, an even more
important part of Thinking Day is
to promote the theme.of peace to
be spread throughout the world.
Lord and Lady Baden-Powell ded-
icated so much of their lives to the
pursuit of ways to bring about
peace. to all people. Peace is the
theme for this year which is also
the centennial year of Lady Badcn-
Powcll's birth in 1889. It is.a w=
ly fitting theme for the former
World Chief Guide who died in
1977. She had a special talent for
remembering people long after she
had met them.
Her explanation for being able to
remember people so clearly was
that "everyone was her friend."
I ler vitality, enthusiasm and friend-
liness inspired others to do their
best to help those around them..
Perhaps the idealspassed on from
Lady Baden-Powell can best be
summed up in the words of Her Ex-
cellency the Right Honourable. Jean
Sauve, Governor General of Canada
and Honourary President of Girl
Guides of Canada, when she said
"Although Girl Guides outgrow
their uniforms and running shoes,
they never outgrow their spirit of
service and commitment to others
or the love of life and nature and
feelings of friendship instilled in
them during their days as Girl
Guides."
In Guiding the ideal for peace be-
gins with the individual who learns
that peace must start with herself.
Many activities have .been
planned by arca groups. On Satur-
day February 18, the 30 Huron Park
Brownies baked in the morning at
the Centralia Hall to prepare for a
Special Persons Tea in the after
nook' when they entertained moth-
ers, grandmothers, aunts and other
special persons in their lives..

membership in town has climbed to
over 100 in number. All are eager-
ly awaiting moving into the new
facilities in the Lions Youth Cen-
tre. Although the old building has
met our needs over the years, the
new building offers much needed
space and many more welcome fea-
tures.
We hope everyone will check out
the co-operative Guiding and Scout-
ing display in Country Flowers'

Children's play at Blyth March 18
BLYTH - Vancouver's award-
winning Green Thumb performs its
children's play, Two Weeks Twice
A Year at Blyth Memorial Hall on
Saturday March 18 at 2 p.m. Writ-
ten by Colin Thomas, the play was
commissioned to deal dramatically.
with the effect of separation and di-•
vorce on children.
"We've included Two Weeks
Twice A Year in the childrens' ser-
ies", explained Joel Harris, General
Manager of the Blyth Centre for the
Arts, "First, because it is excellent
theatre for children done by one.pf
Canada's finest children's theater
companies and second, because di-
vorce effects children in ways adults
are only beginning to understand. It
may be directly in their immediate
family or indirectly in their friends'
families. Suddenly, someone who
has always been there, isn't there
any more. It's all. very confusing for
children to cope."
Twelve-year old Joe tries to "stay
cool" in the face of a visit from the
father he never sees. This sensitive
and humorous play deals delicately
with the subject of young children
and the effect of divorce on their
lives from their point of view.
There are four characters in the
play, Two Weeks .Twice a Year -
Joe, Gogo (6- years old) and their
parents, Sally and Mark.
The play uses an unusual theatri-
cal device: the characters Joe and
Gogo are actually the same kid at
two different stages in his life. As
Joe puts it, "I don't know how it
happened. I was just going through
some of my old toys at the back of
my closet - I was gonna throw
some of them out -. and, all of a
sudden, there was another kid sit-
ting beside me, playing with this
stuff - and I recognized him because -
he was me, only younger." Two
WeeksTwice A Year is suitable for
interested adults and children 6 to -
12 years old. -
Green _Thumb Theatre -for- Young --
People was funded in 1975 with the
mandate to develop and produce new
Canadian plays for young people.
"By focusing on topics that are of
direct and immediate concern of to-
day's children", says Green Thumb
Artistic Director, Patrick McDo-
nald, "we hope to offer some tools
to help them cope with the chal-
lenges of modern life. Equally im-
portant, we want to show young
people the excitement of live thea-
tre, '
hea-tre," Green Thumb's works have
been produced by 53 companies, in
five different countries and have, so
far, been translated into French,
Spanish and Japanese. New works
created by Green Thumb Theatre
include One Thousand Cranes,
New Canadian Kid, Liars and
Night Light; to name a few.
Green Thumb- Theatre annually
performs to an average of 180,000
young people, their families and
teachers. They've performed around
the world, from Hong Kong to.
Stockholm, Montreal to New Zea-
land, and Whitehorse to Florida.
Two Weeks Twice A Year has
been touring to schools and thea-
tres throughout Canada since Sep-
tember, 1988. For more informa-
