Beckett's five goals
lead Bells to .victory
HURON PARK - A five goal
performance by Ryan Beckett led
the Exeter Bell Atoms to a hard-
fought 6-4 victory over Ilderton
last Wednesday.
Exeter jumped into an early lead
with Beckett scoring unassisted at
1:01 of the first period, but Ilderton
swung into action replying with
three unanswered goals. The period
ended 3-2 with Beckett narrowing
the gap connecting on a set-up
from Scott Rowe.
Close checking by both teams re-
sulted in a scoreless second period
but the third was a different story
with Beckett notching two unassist-
ed markers and Ryan Soldan bang-
ing home a pass from Brian Rich-
ardson to clinch the win.
Ilderton made it close but Beckett
tallied with an cmpty net goal with
five seconds remaining.
Runners up - Gerald McBride's rink were runners up in the
Better Butter Bonspiel, sponsored by Gay Lea Foods, at the
Exeter Curling Club on Saturday. Jim Kerslake's rink won the
bonspiel in aclose finish. From left, Don Thompson, second,

Scoring for Exeter were: Jeff Sa-
raras from Rob Lynn and Andrew
Hern in the second period. Adam
Jean scored the insurance goal early
into the third period. Kevin Ross
and Chad Gilfillan assisted on the
goal.
On Sunday, Exeter travelled to
Forest and beat the very rough For -
Forest scored the only goal in
the first period, but Exeter tied the
game early into the second. Marty
DeBruyn scored this goal on an un-
assisted effort.
The Broncos came out flying in
the third period as Jeff Sararas
scored 53 seconds into the period.
DeBruyn got the lone assist.
Chris McDonald scored the next
goal on a solo dash.
Panthers .bow out in
semifinals of tourney

EXETER - On the weekend,
South Huron District High
School's Senior girls' volleyball
team bowed out in the semi final
round of a tournament held at East
Elgin Secondary School in Aylmer.
After a week of tough exams, the
girls played extremely well in
round-robin play. The Panthers de-
feated College Avenue 15-4, Strath-
- roy 15-3, South Collegiate 15-12,
St. Mary's 15-11, Central Elgin 15-
5-6 and Delhi 15-12. Their only
loss in regular play was against
Woodstock Huron Park when they
fell short taking a disappointing 15-
13 loss.

in first placing hoping to become
the tournament champions.
In the semi-final round the Pan-
thers met College Avenue from
Woodstock, the fourth -place team.
Here, College Avenue upset the
confident SH team . winning two
matches 15-7 and 15-10.
The Panthers are still looking for-
ward to a successful season in Hu-
ron -Perth play as they hosted a reg-
ular tournament at SH on Tuesday.
They also travel to Central Huron
on Thursday for a HP tournament.
The final goal was scored by Ben
Guenther with assists to McDonald
and DeBruyn.
Goaltender Jason Lindenfield
came up big in both games in
turning the Forest team aside.
The Broncos advance to play the
winners of Lambeth Dresden se-
ries.
