And with the growing number of farm- ers and agri-business personnel pur- chasing computers the demand for training is even greater. In an effort to make this training more available to those interested, Centralia purchased fifteen portable lap -top computers and a printer that moves with an instructor to wherever the course is being taught. "We found there was a real need to take the computer classes to the people" explained Kathryn Bi- ondi, Manager of the Continuing Education program at Centralia. The portable computers are light- weight and easily transported. All the software being used is loaded on to the computer's hard disc, and each student uses a 3 1/2" disc for their own. work. "The computers can go to any community facility such as a school, church or hall, as long as the power supply is ade- quate." Biondi adds. Neil Corbett photo CCAT presents manual One of the most important skills a successful farm manger can have today is the ability to organize and analyses farm records. Centralia College is taking the lead in this area and recently prepared a new "Farm Financial Management - User's Manual" in co-operation with the Agricultural Representa- tives Branch of the Ontario Mini- stry of Agriculture and Food. The manual is intended to guide a farmer step-by-step, through modules, examples and work- sheets. By following the instruc- tions and Ivor -Laing -filar .l tits.-. manual the user will have a com- plete annual financial statement and projection for the farm enter- prise. This information is essential to aid in decision making and both financial and production planning. "We're dedicated to meeting the needs of the farming community" exjllained Bill Allen, director of Centralia College. "We've seen an increase in the need for farm man- agement training which resulted in the development of this comprc- hcnsive User's Manual." Some of the topics covered in- clude the purpose of the balance sheet and income statement, cash flow statement and projection, debt servicing, enterprise budgets and monitoring the farm business plan. The new "Farm Financial Man- agement - User's Manual" is availa- ble to anyone interested in learning the principles of farm management. It is already being used as a refer- ence guide in several of the Farm Business. Management courses of- fered by Centralia's Continuing Ed- -ucation section and the Industrial Training Advisory Committees in Huron and Perth. Several OMAF offices across thc province have or- dered the manuals fpr their farm cli- If you are interested in purchasing a manual, contact Centralia College at (519) 228-6691 or your local OMAF office.
