and Rowe -took his spot behind the
bench. In six league games, Brooks
has scored tw_ o goals and picked up
five assists for seven points and
two penalty minutes. • _
_ Brooks was given the choice of
playing the rest of the season if he"
wanted to and was expected to be in
the -lineup Sunday night against Ta-
vistock Royals, but was unable to -
make the game, because he was
playing in an NHL oldtimc;s gamc-
in Halifax and_ his plane was late_
getting into London.
"(lord is not the only. one to
bla-rne for the. -way -the team was
playing. Most of the -players are
just as much to blame for Gord not
finishing out the season. We just
weren't getting where we wanted to
go with Gordic as coach. I am not
saying Iam the- answer either but I
am going to do my best," added
Rowe. _
Rowe said last week for the team
to be competitive for the rest of the
Central League season and playoffs
they have to get back to the basics
and try and get .themselves motivat—
ed
ot vated again. The pressure is off right
now, he said, but they should con-
centrate on playing fictter defensive-
ly.
"I don't think there is mach we
can do to get ready for the playoffs.
We are playing good hockey right
now. All we have to do is remem-
ber to play our positions and if we
get good goaltending we should be
in good shape," said Nairn.
Next action for the Hawks is Fri-
day nighfwhen the Braves are at the
South Huron Rec Centre for an
8:30 contest and Saturday night the

"The addition of Brian Leetch has
taken a lot of pressure off me as far
as getting points is concerned. I am
not quite as concerned about that
any more because I know the other
guys will get their share," said
Shaw.
Shaw had three goals and three as-
sists in. his last 13 games before
Saturday night. He also has the best
-plus/minus record on the Rangers
with a plus 24, which means he has
been on the ice for 24 more goals
than goals scored against the Rang-
ers. Of Shaw's four goals this sea-
son, two have come on the power-
- play, one was short-handed and one
was a game -winning goal.
He admitted the Rangers have a
good shot at going far in the
playoffs this year but for them- to
win the Stanley Cup they have to
have everybody stay healthy and get
good goaltending. -
- They are in first place in the
tough Patrick Division with 62
points after Saturday's tie in with
the Maple Leafs, two poi' is in
front of the Pittsburgh Peng' .ns.
Shaw is hoping to stay healthy
himself this year because injury and
illness have kept him out ofthe
playoffs- for the last two years. He
has never played in a Stanley Cup
game. -
