the season winning ,6-1 over third-
place -Forest.
Exeter started the scoring only .a
minute aad a half into the game,
. Leeann Foster and Cara Gardner set

The game remained 1-0 until -
2:46: of the- first,. when Miners
struck again, on a passing play
from. Heather Davies and Sonya
Lawrence.
GardRcr connected seconits later
with Jo Dec Rowe and Teresa Stire
assisting on thc goal.
In the sccond half, Exeter contin-
ued to increase their lead with quick
goals from- Foster and Stirs, SLire
helped on Fosters' effort and Gard-
ner had a hand in both .goals. •
Forest obtained their oply goal at
7:38 of the second friftt Bonny:
Gordon on a high flip shot.
Stire finished the scoring at 4:14
on a pass from Gardner.
• Jana Webster's strong goaltending
for Exeter made the goal scoring for
Forest nearly impossible. )udi
Wilson; Amy Edwards and Cheryle
Wein also played a good game for
• Exeter.
Exeter has two games remaining
in the regular season and they need
wins in both games to'finish in top
spot:

Bell. Atoms split pair with Ilderton, Parkhill

Bells split a -"pair of weekend
games, losing a close contest to 11-
derton on Saturday and earning a
victory on Sunday over Parkhill.,
In the Saturday contest, Exeter.
Bells opened the scoring from
Adam Wallis who converted from
:Brian Richardson
Ilderton responded with goals
from Jeremy Bycraft, Allan Ready,
Randy Pollard and Scan Bendig.
Exctcr Bells made a comeback ef-
fort when Brian Richardson scored
and -Ryan Beckett scored before thc
clock ran out.
The 4-3 loss was the firstloss to
:lldef�tent Flyers. The teams had a
prei ious tic in league play.
On Sunday evening at the. South
Huron . Rec Centre, the .Bells
showed hard work and determina-
tion in a 4-2 victory over Parkhill.
!n the first, Exctcr was on thc
board .with a goal by Ryan Beckett
with Chris .MacDonald and. Brian
Richardson assisting. •
Parkhill evened- the score on a
Morgan Thomas goal and thc peri-
od ended tied 1-1.
In the second period, Jason Keller

In the third, Ryan Soldan gave
the Bells a 3,1leadwhen he scored
from Jon Moore.

Parkhill cut the lead 3-2, but 27
seconds later the Bells scored again
as Keller notched his second of the
night from Adam. Wallis and Jon
Moore.
Mau Sims was in goal for the
Bells. The Bells registered the win
and also had the distinction of reg-
istering a penalty -free game as did
their opponents from Parkhill.

Mohawks eliminated from Hardy Cup playdowns by Durham

Huskies a 6-0 lead at 2:03 of the
third, to cut Durham's lead in half..
Scoring for the Mohawks were;
Joe Scherer unassisted, Dave Ran-
derson from Jeff Warren and Brooks
from Kris Bedard and Bill Glover.
The Mohawks also couldn't connect
on several power -play chances in
the third period as Durham put a de-
fensive blanket on the Mohawks,
not giving them much room to
move.
Kevin Hopkins put the game on
ice with a short handed goal at
15:31.
The Mohawks outshot Durham
38-22 in the game but \Vebster
played outstanding all evening.
Legion Pee Wees tie and lose in playdowns
DRESDEN' - The Exeter Legion
Pee Wees lost once and tied once in
OMHA playdown action last week.
-They lost 7-4 to Dresden Saturday
afternoon and tied Chatham 3-3 last
Wednesday night at the South Hu-
ron Rec Centre. •
Against Dresden, .Exctcr took a
Precious Blood
2nd in District
STRATFORD - The • Precious
Blood Boys' volleyball team, com-
posed of Darren Kints, Sean
McCann, Scott Parsons, Shawd Ja-
cob, Sivichay Sengkhounmany,
Peter Gryseels, Greg Agnew, Chris
Rowcliffe and coach Terry Wil-
helm, captured second place in the
Huron -Perth Roman Catholic
School boys volleyball champion-
ships in Stratford last week.
Precious Blood was one of five
teams vying for the title in the,
round-robin tournament.
After regulation play was com-
.pleted, Precious Blood and Strat-
ford's St. Michael's had the best
record overall.
Those tcatps then went against
each other in the championship
game with the locals coming out
on the short end of the match.
Precious Blood went through the
entire first round ,losing only one
match, to St. Michael's.

period, Chatham took that lead
well into the third, but Lingard and
Beckett combined to get Exeter on
the board at 9:28 of the third, with
Lingard doing the damage.
Chatham then took a 3-1 lead
scoring a pair of goals four min-
utes apart.
Beckett got one back for Exeter,
from Lingard and Gavin Snell with
38 seconds left before Lingard fi-
• nally came through with the tying
goal.
The Mohawks -took advantage of
.Webster sitting on the bench Thurs-
day night in Durham to even the se-
ries 1-1 with a 4-2 win.
Webster's backup Rob Dixon,
played a great game against the Mo-
hawks Thursday night and if it wcrc
not for some good stops by him the
Mohawks might have hit double
digits.
As it was, they scored once in the
first period, twice in the second and
once more in the third.
Hitting the scoresheet for the Mo-
hawks were; Randerson, from Quin-
cy Wilker-and Ron Elliot, Wilker
from Paul Barton and Randerson,
Randerson from Wilkcr and Kris
Bedard from Warren and Bill Glo-
ver.
The Huskies will meet the
Mohawks thump Rocks 9-6
ELORA --Despite having several
key players out of the lineup, the
Exctcr Moha ks still managed to
take care of the Elora Rocks, 9-6
Friday night, at the Elora Commu=
nity Centre.
Missing from the Mohawks' line-
up wcrc; goaltender Rick Pikul,
captain Mark Sochner, Kris Bedard;
Tim Adair, Jeff Shipley, Randy
Kraul and'Ron Goodhand.
The Mohawks were outshot 14-8
in the first period, but Bill Dark
came up with some big saves but
the locals managed to take a 4-2
first -period lead on goals by Al
Gates from Ted Kewley and Bill
Glover, Ron Elliot from Barry
Baynham and Jeff McClenaghan,
Glover from Gates and Joe Scherer
Bears drop pair to Strathroy 2-0
,EXETER - Exctcr Bears dropped
back-to-back games against Strath-
roy on the weekend.
At home on Saturday, the locals
took a 3-0 lead into the third but
tired as they lost 5-3.
Jamie Bedard scorcd from Jeff
McCurdy and Brad Hern early in
the second to open the scoring. Ja-
mie McBride converted passes from
Greg Koboashy and Jon Cooper
and McCurdy scorcd from Bedard as
the Bears dominates their visitors.
Strathroy came out in the third
and scored three goals in less than a'
minutcs to tic the game and then
added two more • later to take thc
win. .
In Strathroy on Sunday the short-
handed Bears wcrc handed a 10-2
setback. The only scores for Exctcr
were Bedard and Cooper with Coop-
er, Greg Ilaggitt and Hern adding
assists.
Ringette team tie
Forest in Hensall 6-6
HENSALL - On Saturday in
Hensall, it was an evenly matched
exhibition game against Forest,
that ended in a 6-6 tie.
In the first period, Sarah Hamil-
ton scorcd with an assist from
Jayne Ballantyne, Meagan Ratz
scorcd the second goal, unassisted
and Ballantvne scored the th;rd and

Stratford 7-4. .

In Hensall, on Saturday, against
Clinton, Exeter came out on top of
a 12-0 score.
Andrea Urlin was in net, doing
another good job.
Each member of the team either
got a goal or two, or an assist.
The Twecns will have a lot
tougher job, when they come up
against Mitchell, in Hensall, on
Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

The. Mohawks scored three more
times in the middle frame to take a
7-4 Lead after two periods.
Scoring in the second period were;
Scherer from Kemick, Dave Rander-
son from Quincy Wilker and Elliot,

- The Mohawks put the game away
with a pair of markers in the final
frame. Gates picked up_ his second
from Randerson and Glover and
Randerson completed his hat trick
from Paul Barton and Glover.
The Mohawks fired 34 shots at
two Rocks goaltendcrs and Dark
faced 37 shots in the Ex'Lr[cr net.
The Mohawks wcrc scheduled to
play thz. Grand Valley Harvesters
Sunday night at the Rec Centre, but
that game was cancelled because
Grand Valley could not get enough
players for the contest.
The Mohawks and Tavistock Roy-
als will play a home -and -home ser-
ies starting Sunday night at the Rec
Centre at 7:30 They will be in Ta-
vistock Monday night at 9 p.m.
Mooretown Comets:in the next se-
ries.
The -Comets were awarded the
series win over Dunnville after
Dunnville Icft the game with 4:41 •
Icft in the first period•last Wednes-
day.
. The Comets- wcrc leading the
game 4-1 with 4:41 -left in the
opening period when a brawl en-
sued. The referee stopped play and
told the teams to go to the dressing
room and the remaining time would
be added to the time in the second
period. Bat for some reason Dunn-
ville left the -arena after the brawl.
As punishment the Ontario Hockey
Association awarded. the series. to
Mooretown.. •
