The history of Shipka's school
By Annie Morenz f
SHIPKA - In 1863 S.S. No. 7,
Shipka was formed. It consisted of
3,422 acres and had an assessment
of S152,670.00. In 1863 the first .
log school was built on Lot 7, 16th
concession Stephen. About -10
years later it was replaced on Lot 7
17th concession by a frame build-
ing.
In 1901, the section was divided,
part ()fit with the Union school at
Corbett. In order to have the school
more centrally located in the section
it was decided- to move it farther
north.
One-half acre -of land was bought
from William Holton Lot 10, 17th
concession, for S100.00.
During the summer of 1901, the
old building wasmoved to the
present - site and was used in the
erecting of a new and substantial
Ebiokrbuildingoariairgaiisameiwood
shed at the south side.
A supply of good drinking water
was a problem for many -years until.
a new well was dug in 1928.
From the graduates' of Shipke
school came to the Christian mini-
stry, Pastor Gordon Hewlett, Rev.
Paul Webb and missionary teacher,.
Audrey Finkbeiner.
