Rev. Wheeler chose her text from
the gospel of the day. SL John 2-3
• from the story of the marriage in -
Cana of Galilee when Jesus Mother
said "They have no wine."
Next Sunday service is planned
• for 11 a.m. with a light lunch fol-
lowing the service.
• Mrs. Mabel Needham and Mary
Davis attended the January qieeting
at the home of Ivtarguerite Green -
Ice.

Three drinking
driving cases in
Exeter court
EXETER - Judge McCormick
'• rendered verdicts on three drinking
-and driving cases and two assault
charges during the January 10 ses-
• sion of provincial court in Exeter.
• William. W. Riley, Huron Park,
pleaded guilty to impaired driving
and was fined S600 or 20 days in
jail, with six months to pay, and
• . his driver's licence was suspended
for a year. Two breath samples
taken after Riley was stopped by
police on November 5 for -malfunc-
tioning back lights gave readings
of 170 and 160.
Mark Gregory Mero, Kippen,'
was given three months to pay a
$600 fine, and lost his licence for a
year after Pleading guilty to a BAC
' of 110 and 119. Mero had been
stopped for speeding and weaving
badly in his own lane while driving
north on Highway 4 in Hay town-
ship on November 18. Polide
found an open bottle of beer in the
• vehicle as well as one still sealed.
A S750 fine and a 12 -month li-
cence suspension were levied
against Michael R. Boyle, McGil-
livray township. Police were
called to the scene of an accident on
November 8 on Highway 4. two
km north. of Exeter. The accused
was behind the wheel of his Vehi-
cle, and had been seen trying to
drive it out of the ditch.
Two breath samples taken at the
hospital gave readings of 140 and
•
150.
George Arnold Maxwell, Hensall,
was before the court on three chcirg-
es. He pleaded not guilty to assault
causing bodily harm, and changed
his plea to guilty when the charge I
was amended to plain assault.
Maxwell also pleaded guilty .to fail-
ing to attend court on September
13, and to failing to provide a
breath sample.
• The charges were the result of an
incident in Hensall on August 2.
As Maxwell has bccn in jail since
September 30, the judge only gave
• him a year's probation instead of a
jail sentence on the assault charge.
Maxwell was fined S75 on the sec-
ond charge, and sentenced to a fur-
ther 14 days in jail and a Three-year
licence suspension for failing to
provide a breath sample.
Bev Harris, London, was in court
• to answer to an assault charge laid
after Exeter police chif Laity Hardy
was called to a domestic dispute on
• August 1 involving the accused and
Anthony .Shea. The two and their
• child were living in Exeter at the
time.
Although Harris said Shca had
bccn drinking. Hardy testified he
saw no indication alcohol was in-
volved. He described the situation
when he first arrived as "volatile',
and said a long time was needed to
calm it down.
Judge McCormick found the ac-
cused guilty, saying that Hardy's ev-
idence corroborated Shca's claim he
ittr at the time
police were called. Harris was giv-
en a conditional discharge and put
on one year's probation.

Representing the Exeter congrega-
tion, approximately 100 local Wit-
nesses listened attentively as the
convention theme "Rendering Sa-
cred Service With Godley Fear" was
developed.
"All the major problems in the
world today - the moral brcakdown,
• the crime, thc violence - are due to
man's failure to fear God", said
Wayne Johnson, a travelling repre-
sentative of the Watch -Tower Socie-
ty of Canada.
Johnson emphasized that while
Jehovah's Witnesses fear God they
also.love Him. "We love Him for
his qualities! We love Him for his
generous provisio-ns! And we love
Him for what he will yet do for
those who truly have a healthy fear
of Him," he concluded.
A peak attendance of 1,110 was
reached during the Sunday afternoon
classes.
• President Rose Cunningham
opened the meeting with the mem-
bers prayer and General Thanksgiv-
ingTepeated in unison. Prayers for
the absent members, sick and the
Sunday School. Rose 'read the
scripture. Mary_Jefferies read the
secretaries report and Nadine Bedell
the treasurer report, showing a very
successful year. Plans were made
for the day of prayer service to be
held. at the home of Sheryl Carroll
in March, date to be announced lat-
Also a dessert euchre and bake ta-
ble to be held March 14 in the Par-
ish Hall at one o'clOck. Everyone
welcome. Marguerite conducted a
contest, won .by Viola Atkinson.
The rector asked for a, coffee hour
after church. •
Next Sunday, Rose Cunningham
offered to provide the refreshments.
Mary Jefferies asked to be relieved
of her office as secretary and Hazel
Eaton volunteered to be our nein
secretary after a short discussion.
Rose agreed to be President for this
year, Nadine Bedell is our treasurer
• again. There' were 11 members
paying their membership and dues
and we welcomed Mrs. Beverly Car-
diff as a guest. Marguerite provided
refreshments and all enjoyed a so-
cial hour.

Mary Davis was dinner guest
Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs.
Bob MacGillivray, Courtney, Katie
Scarlett, Corbin and Caleb.
Miss Marylou Tindall•Missiisau-•
ga, spent Saturday and Sunday with
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob. Tin-
dall and Robert.
