Caledon eliminated Mitchell 6-5, scoring the winning goal in over- time. ' With the departure of Port Elgin from the tournament, the Hawks took on Caledon in an exhibition match to ensure that Caledon would play three games. Exeter scored four times in the final period but still fell one goal short, 7-6. Shackleton and Jim Lewis led the Hawks with a pair of tallies and Cousineau and Quinn netted the single goals. Dan Nairn, _Brent Nairn, Jcff Ansems, Joel Campbell, Cousineau and Steve Dubarry picked up one assist each. Exeter outshot the Flyers 31-20 but still fell one goal short. In the B finals the Hawks scored early and often to defeat the Grand Valley Harvesters 7-1. Hawks were led by Dan Nairn and Joel Campbell. who had two goals each. Morrissey, Dickins and Shackleton netted the single goals. Larry Lewis picked up four as- sists, Quinn had pair and singles went to Dubarry, Dan Nairn, Cou- sineau, Jim Lewis and Morrissey. It took a shootout after no one scored in sudden victory overtime to • detennine the winner on the A side, between Caledon and Wellesley. Caledon scored four times in IhP last six minutes to take a 5-4 lead over the Applejacks, but Wellesley answered with 22 seconds left to play to send the game into over- time. After the outcome was not decided in overtime, each team selected five shooters for the shootout. It came down to the last shot in shootout as well when Caledon's last shooter scored and Wellesley's didn't, to give the Flyers their second -straight A Division title in dramatic fash- ion. - Caledon's captain Doug Rayner was named the tournament's Most . Valuable Player and Wellesley goal- tending duo of Derek Switzer and Jeff Gerber were named co -winners of the Most Valuable Goaltender for the tournament. Mini Hawks beat Blyth BLYTH - The Stephen Township Mini Black Hawk Atoms hockey teams picked up a 4-1 victory over Blyth Saturday afternoon in Blyth$.. The first period was scoreless, but the Mini Hawks took control in the second and had a 2-0 lead after the second frame. Scoring in the second for Stephen Panthers play in Sarnia tournament; By Michelle Ellison SARNIA - On the weekend South Huron District High School's Sen- ior boys basketball team were one of eight participating in an invita- tional tournament held at Sarnia St, Clair. The Panthers found them- selves in the consolation final game but they bowed out there. In the first round of play, South Huron met an agressive Laurier team. The Panthers held Laurier to a 17-14 draw at half time. The Panthers caught their opponents in the third quarter but eventually fell on the shortend of a 39-34 final score. Rob Pcaren led the Panthers with 26 points. and Tim McAllister, Scott Regier, Rob Wonnacott and Pat Ducharme each added two. South Huron's nett opponent was Ingersoll.. The Panthers dominated most of the play and came away with a 49-33 win• to advance them to -the consolation final game. Wonnacott was top scorer with 15 points, followed by McAllister wiht 13 and Rob Pearen with 10. The Panthers met a strong Petro- lia team in the consolation game. South Huron didn't. prove to be much competition for Petrolia ane the Panthers were defeated 61-36. Rob Pearen led with 11 points, followed by Tim McAllister with 11 and Scott Hern'with eight. They took on the Goderich Vi kings at South Huron District Higt School yesterday and travel to Strat ford Northwestern on Thursday. Novice Panthers win squeaker in Parkhill PARKHILL - The Exeter Novice Panthers picked up a 3-2 win in. Parkhill Saturday afternoon in Lamhton Middlesex Hockey League action. Exeter scored the only goal of the • opening period, with Michael McConnell doing the honors unas- sisted. Jarred Bender then tied the game for Parkhill, with the only goal of the middle stanza. It was also an the game. McConnell picked. up the game winner and his third of the game, less than a minute later, with help from Ben Cottrell and Jesse -Berg- man. They were beaten 4-1 by Listow- ell in their first match and lost 10-4 to Elora in the second match. Mark Glavin got Exeter's only goal against Listowel after being set up by Jcff Lingard and Derck Beck- ett. Elora scored four times in the first period before Exeter came back with three goals to get close early in the second but Elora scored the next six goals to put the game on ice. Scoring for Exeter were; Lingard from Scan McCann, Lingard from Glavin and McCann, Gavin Snell from Glavin and Matt Godbolt and McCann from Steve Farquhar and Ryan Stuart.
