Curling winners - Doug Pearson's Exeter rink won the first draw in the Royal Bank Bonspiel at the
Exeter Curling Club on Saturday. Royal Bank's Cliff Shewfelt, centre, presents the trophy to the

Midgets Bears drop close games in tourney
STRATHROY - Exeter Midget
Bears dropped two close contests in
the recent Strathroy John Henry
tournament.
In their first game, the Bears fell
behind to the host Strathroy team
but battled back only to lose 4-2.
Graham Arthur scored on an as-
sist from Jamie McBride and •
McBride then combined with Greg
Koboyahsi to set up Jeff McCurdy.
The second game saw the locals
battle the tough Tilbury team be-
fore losing 7-5.
Brad Hem scored early in the first
period to tie the score on a pass
from Jamie Bedard. Bedard then
connected from Greg Koboyashi to
take the locals to a brief lead before

Tilbury scored twice in less than a
minute to regain the lead.
Before the first period ended Bed-
ard and Arthur connected to give
the Bears a 4-3 rust -period lead.
Three second -period goals put the
game away for Tilbury although
Arthur made it close midway
through the third period before Til-
bury closed the scoring.
Ben Riley was in net for both
games for Exeter.
The Generals opened their Mid-
get OMHA "CC" playdowns with
a 1-1 tie in Ridgetown on Sunday.
Despite outshooting their hosts
35-18 in the game, the Generals
needed a last-minute save by goal -
tender Brent McDonald to pursue
the tie.

mas at the Zurich Lancs. This
tournament is only open to bowl-

tournament.
The Bluewater Zone rolloff will
be held in Zurich on February 5
and the finalists of this bowloff
will compete in the provincial

Petite Ringette team
start year winning
EXETER - The Exeter Petite
Ringette team started the second
half of the season on a winning
note, dominating Mitchell 12-2,
Saturday.
Exeter came out with a winning
attitude and in the first minute of
play, Danielle Miners received a
pass from Cara Gardner and
slammed it in. Only seconds later
Miners struck again on a flip shot
from the free pass circle.
Sonya Lawrence was the next
successful Exeter shooter with
Cheryl Wein assisting. A passing
play from Lawrence and Miners set
Wein up for her second regular sea-
son goal and the fourth of the
game.
Exeter's Lawrence and Miners
both added singles before the end of
the -first with Heather Davies and
Wein getting assists. Mitchell
managed one in the first from Amy
Gowing.
Exeter's scoring continued in the
second, with two from Lawrence
and singles from Miners and Wein.
The additional two goals were
scored by Teresa Stire, her second
and third of the season.
Mitchell's lone goat came from
Kelly Annis.
Exeter assists in the second were
credited to Gardner with two,
Leeann Foster, Judi Wilson, Jo -Dee
Rowe, Amy Edwards, Miners and
Davies all with singles.
Exeter's goaltender Jana Webster
played a great part in Exeter's win,
saving a number of hard shot
Exeter's Petites have this weekend
off but will play January 21 in
Hensall, against Forest.
