Mohawks thump Creemore
CREEMORE - In their only con-
test of the week, the Exeter Mo-
• hawks travelled north to take on the
Creemore Chiefs and defeated their
hosts 9-7, with several local fans
heading with the players on a fan
bus to watch the game as well.
The game was deadlocked 3-3 after
the first period, but the Mohawks
took control in the second, outscor-
ing the Chiefs 4-2 and the two -goal
margin was the difference in the
game.
Scoring for the Mohawks were;
Joe Scherer from John Kernick,
riGord Brooks from Bill Glover and

Hawks get new year off on good note
SEAFORTII - The Exeter I lawks
got the new year off on a winning
note by combining their best offen-
sive game and the best defensive
game so far this season to defeat
the last -place Scaforth Centenaires
9-0 lastTucsday night.
The Hawks peppered starting
Seaforth goalie Tremcer with 23
shots in the first period but only
two found their way into the net,
while Seaforth only had seven
shots on Hawk goalie, Todd Camp -
hell, who recorded his second shut-
out of the season.
The Hawks didn't let up in the
second and third periods either.
They fired 17 shots at Tremeer and
Trevor Fortune, who replaced Tre-
meer between the pipes at 8:07 of
the second. Four of the 17 shots
found the mark in the second period
while three of the Hawks 19 shots
in the third period wcrc for goals.
The Hawks had a grand total of 60
shots on goal in the game, while
Seaforth fired 24 at Campbell but
Campbell managed to turn them all
away.
Several Hawk players had big
nights offensively as well. " Dan

sist. Derek Shackleton had one
goal and three assists. Brian Quinn
had two goals and two assists.
Mark Morrissey chipped in four as-
sists. Jim Dickins contributed one
goal and two assists. Jeff Ansems
had a pair of assists, while Jim Le-
wis and David Dalrymple had the
other goals and Larry Lewis, Jean-
Paul Cousineau, Joel Campbell
and John Rooseboom all had single
assists.
After playing in their annual
tournament on the weekend, the
Hawks resume regular -season play
on Friday when the Mitchell
Hawks will be at the South Huron
Rcc Centre for an 8:30 contest. On
Sunday night the Hawks will also
play host to the Wellesley Apple
Jacks at 7:30 p.m.

EXETER - South Huron District
High School's boys basketball
teams played their first league
games since the Christmas break
on Thursday. The Panthers trav-
elled to Stratford Central and came
away with one of three wins.
Stratford Central took an early
lead over the Senior Panthers and
led 34-17 at half time.
In thc Panthers first meeting with
Central, they defeated Central by a
narrow 65-63 margin. Unfortunate-
ly, South Huron couldn't seem to
keep up with Central this time an
were defeated 67-28.
Rob Pcaren led thc team with
eight points. Rob Wonnacott had
seven and Jaime Tomes and Dave
Coeck each added three.
The Junior boys played a success-
ful game taking a 49-41 win over
Stratford Central. The Panthers
took a fairly convincing 22-16 lead
at half time and continued to play
well and claim the win.
lan Vcrbcek played an outstanding
game scoring 23 points for the Pan-
thers. Verbeek was followed by ,la -
son Clarke and Steve DuBarry who
had nine points a piece.
South Huron's midget boys had
some trouble against• Stratford Cen-
tral and wcrc defeated by their oppo-
nents. Coach, George McEwan felt
that both games played this week
showed the effects of the Christmas
lay-off.

FOREST - The Exeter Bombers
chopped down Forest 2-0 in Novice
hockey action in Forest Saturday
fternoon, in a very tight -checking
contest.
The first period was scoreless,
but Exeter got the only goal it
would end up needed in the game at
1:16 of the second period when
Brian Parsons scored after taking a
pass from Mark Shepley.
They picked up -an insurance goal
at 1:21 of the third when Robbie
McIntosh hit the scoresheet, from
Scott Keys.
Tony Eagleson kicked aside all
Forest shots to record the shutout
for Exeter.
The win improves the Bombers
record•to 6.5-1 in league play.
Ron Elliot, who returned Saturday
after a two -game suspension,
Brooks from Elliot and Kernick on
the power play, Glover from Brooks
and Tim Adair, Paul Barton from -
Quincy Wilker and Elliot, Wilker
from Wayne Urbshott and Barton,
Kernick from Scherer and Al Gates,
Glover from Brooks and Kris Bedard
and Glover unassisted.
It is the fifth time this season that
coach Brooks has had to play this
season because of a lack of regular
players. General Manager Bo6,,,
Rowe handled the coaching chores
once again, with Brooks on the ice.
Creemore captain Bob Parker and
Jerry Reinders each contributed as
pair of goals for the Chiefs.
The Mohawks will get the first
round of the Hardy Cup playdowns
underway Saturday night against the
Durham Huskies at the South Hu-
ron Rec Centre. Game two of the
the best -of -three series will be in
Durham Thursday night and if a
third game is necccssary it will be
played Saturday night at the SHRC.
The Mohawks and Huskies will
also play Sunday night at the
SHRC, in a regular league game.
