This intriguing examination into the mind of Lizzie Borden runs until January 28. Did you do it, Lizzie Borden? LONDON - Did you do it Lizzie Borden? That's the question asked a num- ber of times during the current presentation of Blood Relations at the Grand Theatre in London and after viewing the show, many of the spectators were still asking the same question. The play written by one of Cana- da's most respected playwrights Sharon Pollock centres around the murders of Andrew and Abby Bord- en in Fall River, Massachusetts on August 4 of 11892. The play is set a number of years after the murders and the well -crafted mystery pro- vides plenty of mental exercise in determining who actually did it. Youngest daughter Lizzie Borden was arrested seven days later and confined to jail until acquitted by a grand jury on June 20,1983. The jury could not believe that a dignified lady from a prominent and well-to-do family could perpe- trate such and awful crime. While the acquittal ended formal investigations, Lizzie's trial by the public was never ended. For many years afterwards, the general feeling in the small town was portrayed in the nursery rhyme: Lizzie Borden took an axe. Gave her mother forty whacks When the job was nicely done, - She gave her father forty-one. In an attempt to get Lizzie to re- veal the truth, an actress friend gets her to playa game by having Lizzie switch roles with the maid. The actress -Lizzie parts are played by Frances Hyland and Diana Le- . blanc fulfills the roles of Lizzie and Bridget the maid. Frances Hyland has received plaudits for her many appearances during a 40 year career in England, New York, Chicago including 12 years at the Stratford Festival. The play continues at the Grand Theatre until January 28. Times -Advocate, January 11, 1989 Page 7 Exeter 'Villa EXETER - Happy New Yea' from everyone at the Villa.
