Staffa WI entertains 4-H members and guests

STAFFA - Freda Kerslake pre-
sided for the Christmas meeting of
the Staffa Women's Institute on
Tuesdayevening in the township
hall, when 4-H members, their
mothers and leaders wre guests.
Freda welcomed everyone and
opened the meeting with the Ode
and Mary Stewart Collect,'accom-
panicd by Marion McCaughey at
the piano. Sixteen members and
nine visitors answered the roll call
by naming another country they
would like to visit at Christmas
time.

Both Staffa 4-H clubs set up in-
teresting displays, Staffa #1 was
on Creative Ideas for Leftovers and
Doris Jeffery commented on the
display and some of the clubs ac-
tivities. -
Nancy Dearing commented on
Staffa #2 clubs display on, Is it
Fruit Juice Drinks or Nector?
A special presentation was mde
. to Kay Smale who has been work-'
ing with 4-H members for over 15
'years. Kay was that '<, d for her
services as a 4-H leader and pre-
sented with a gift by Lillian Dou-
glas.
Sharon Fell was presented with a
gift by Doris Jeffery, in recogni-
tion of successfully completing
24, 4-H clubs and Roberta Temple -
Man presented Joan Kerslake with
-a gift of appreciation for success-
fully completing 18 4-H [clubs.
Doris Miller presented gifts to Kar-
en Norris and Leeann Dow for suc-
cessfully completing 12, 4-1-1 pro-
jects and Marjorie Visscher has
also completed 12 4-H projects but
was unable to be present.
During a short business session
the Institute agreed to cater to a
banquet on January 18. The com-
mittee darned was Florence.
McPhail, Verle Mahon, Lillian
Douglas and Freda Kerslake. A de-
cision
was made to donate the .
kitchen contents to the -township.
Appreciaton was expressed •for a
generous check received for the
branch members services rendered
during the plowing match.
Each member contributed a num-
ber for the program, so alt present
enjoyed a variety of Christmas mu-
sic, readings, memories of earlier

The objective' of the forestry
-program 'is t0 promote the wise use.

Conservation Authority properties
for forestry purposes and a public
education program.
In order to protect environmen-
tally significant areas, t h.e

grant arca is to identify, evaluate
and manage significant natural are -

planning with othor agencies, pub-
lic educatioris and preparation of
management and site plans for Con-
servation Authority lands.
• The fish and wildlife objec-
tive is to provide and improve habi-
tat for fish ancd wildlife. This. will
bc-achieVed by providing and im-
proving habitat on Conservation -
Authority lands, -providing Conser-
vation--Services--programs and a
public education program. -
The ohjcc6ive-°of the cultural
and historical resources pro-
grams is to identify; protect and
interpret these resources. This will'.
be achicvcd through protection of
cultural and historical resources on
Conservation Authority property.
In all. program areas efforts will
be made to accommodate new tech-
nologies and information in the
management of natural resources.
In addition, co-operation and joint
planning activities:with other agen-
cies will be continued in order to
achie.Vc an integrated and co-
ordinated'approach inwards resource
man agement.
The Watershed Pl:ut will not be a
static document. Changes will be
made to the plan as resource prob-
lems and- issues change within the
watersheds of the Authority.
