Raymond, McLean & Gray Barristers and Solicitors EXETER, Ontario Solicitors for the Executors 49c Rec deficit will jump Exeter ratepayers will face an increase of six to eight percent in the deficit of the South Huron rec centre, administrator Ian Smith indicated in his monthly report to council. Smith, who is now a per- manent employee, said the tentative budget for the centre and the recreation program is $205,000 and the deficit is expected to be around $62,000. The town will be responsible for about $48,000 of the latter. The administrator in- dicated he had met recently with Usborne council in an effort to get more township involvement and said his meeting may result in in- creased grant support from Usborne, although that was not the intent of the session. He said he would attempt to help Usborne get their maximum recreation grant from the province, which would help both the township and the local program. A similar meeting is planned in the near future with Stephen. The board recently un- dertook a survey regarding participation in recreation programs and found that about 55 to 58 percent were from Exeter, 16 percent from Usborne, seven percent from Hay and 12 percent from Stephen. All but Hay council provide funds for local recreation program. Smith advised council that the board had recently in- creased the hall rental rates $25 for Friday and Saturday night bookings and said the reason was to meet inflation. After noting that more people were needed to play hockey and figure skate to use up some free ice time hours, he facetiously suggested he would like council to pass a motion to increase Exeter's population. Councillor Lossy Fuller asked if the increased hall rates still made the centre comparable to other area hall rates and Smith said this was the case and noted the board wanted to ensure that the facility pays for itself. Councillor Jay Campbell commended the board for the successful community party staged on Saturday and Smith replied that it was also successful from a financial point of view. "it was a very supportive group," he said, indicating that the bar had done well. Arthritis total nearing X2,000 Students at Centralia College report this week that a total of 1,833.53 has been raised in this year's carn- paign for the area branch of the Arthritis Society. "This money will be ap- plied to the Society's program of research and education," said campaign chairman Fern Adair. "Last year many research projects worthy of research had to be declined by The Arthritis Society because of lack of funds.
