Saints break even
in South Huron
The Centralia College
Saints gained an even split in
two South Huron in-
termediate hockey league
games this week. The Saints
scored a 10-3 victory over the
Thedford Browns and lost a
close 7-6 decision to the
Zurich Buckeyes.
The Saints will be back in
action tonight, Wednesday
when they meet the Thedford
Browns at the Stephen
township arena at Huron
Park.
Seven unanswered goals
late in the second period and
in the third allowed the
Saints to beat Thedford 10-3.
In the first period the
Saints took a 3-1 lead. Ken
Vanos fired two successful
shots in the initial stanza. Ed
Michniewicz assisted on
both goals and Sherwood
Hinze picked up one assist.
The other goal came from
the stick of captain Marty
Becker on a three-way
passing combination with
Cal McConnell and Ed
Michniewicz.
Thedford scored two goals
early in the second to tie the
score. It ended their scoring
for the game.
Dave McFadden con-
verted a pass from Rick
Vanos at 7:34 for the College
and two minutes later Ed
Michniewicz hit with assists
going to Sherwood Hinze and
Ken Vanos.
In the final frame, Ken
Vanos scored twice to up his
game total to four. The first
assist went to Ed
Michniewicz and Marty
Becker helped on the other.

The other three Saints
scores came when Rick
Vanos scored from Mike
Sadler, Rick Vanos set up a
Marty Becker goal and
Wayne Riebot completed a
passing combination with
Rick Vanos and Dave
McFadden.
Three goal leads
In Thursday's 7-6 win by
Zurich over the Saints each
team enjoyed three goal
leads at some time in the
game.
The Saints scored the only
two goals of the first period
and another score early in
the second before the
Buckeyes found the scoring
range.
In the first period. Ken
Vanos scored for CCAT. Ed
Michniewicz assisted on both
goals and Sherwood Hinze
added on an assist. Early in
the second Michniewicz
converted a pass from Marty
Becker.
Zurich roared right back
with four straight goals in
the middle frame. They
started scoring on a power
play effort at 2.25 on a shot
by Jim Murray with Mike
Clarke and Glenn Nicholson
assisting.
Ron Rader followed with
two consecutive successful
shots to tie the score with
Glen Zirk assisting on both.
Before the period was over
Mike Clarke counted on an
unassisted effort and Jim
Murray hit with a pass from
Kevin McKinnon.
Marty Becker scored for
CCAT with an assist from Ed
Michniewicz to give the
Buckeyes a 5-4 lead.
The Buckeyes scored two
goals in the first four
minutes of the third period to
go ahead 7-4. Steve Bedour
and Pat Bedard were the
marksmen. Assisting were
Mike Clarke, Pat Bedard,
Gerald Weido and Jim West.
The final two CCAT goals
came only 18 seconds apart
near the five minute mark.
Sherwood Hinze scored on
passes from Ed Michniewicz
and Ken Vanos and
Michniewicz hit on a pass
from Ken Vanos.
The Buckeyes took eight of
the 12 penalties handed out
by referees Ron Watt and
Wayne Corbett. All were of
the minor variety.
HENSALL CHAMPS — A team entered by Pfaff Electric took the A division of the Henson minor athletic association in-

Intermediate champs
Pfaff club wins at Hensall
The second annual Hensall
minor athletic association
intermediate hockey tour-
nament held last weekend
proved to be a big success
with Pfaff Electric of Exeter
and the Hensall Sherwoods
emerging as the two top
teams.
Pfaff's took the A crown
with a come from behind8-7
victory over Lucan Sunday.
Pfaff's took the lead with
seven minutes elapsed in the
game as Jim Rolph con-
verted passes from Grant
Turner and Dennis Bierling.
Before the end of the
period, Lucan took the lead
on goals by Jim Hodgins and
Gord Hardy. Picking up the
assists were Greg Roberts
with two and Gary
Revington.
In the second period the
Irish squad scored four goals
to Pfaff's one to take a four
goal lead heading into the
final stanza.
Rick Davies of Pfaffs
scored with six minutes gone
in the period to put the
Exeter team back into the
game. Perry Stover and
Larry Haugh assisted.
The first of the four con-
secutive Lucan goals came
from the stick of Brad
England with Mike Anderson

Less than a minute later,
Gord Moon fired a shot past
Pfaff goalie Wayne
Parkinson. England
assisted.
At the fourteen minute
mark, Taylor scored from
Andy Hardy to add to
Lucan's total.
The final goal of the period
was picked up by Dave
Smith as he took a pass from
Gord Hardy.
It was a different Pfaff
squad that emerged from the
dressing room at the start of
the third period as they
endeavoured to come back
from a four goal deficit.
Stover scored the first of
Pfaff's goal on a penality
shot called by referees Jeff
O'Brien and Don Appleby.
Two goals in the space of
one minute by Rolph and Jim
Pfaff edged the Exeter squad
closer to Lucan Bierling and
Haugh added the assists.
A goal by Rick Gwalchmai
put Lucan two goals up with
less than six minutes left in
the game. Tom and Gord
Hardy added the assists.
Pfaffs took to the offensive
and two minutes after the
final Lucan goal, Haugh
scored to make it a one goal
game. Rolph assisted.
Pfaff'sknottedthe game at
seven -all when the same
combination clicked with
Rolph scoring and Haugh
picking up the assist.
Saving the game from a
ten minute over time period
was Murray Morrison who
scored from Rudy Godwin
and Brian Haskett.
Pfaffs won $400 for their
efforts.
The Exeter squad made
their way onto the A final as
a result of victories over the
Zurich Buckeyes and the
Hensall Sherwoods.
In their 5-4 overtime win
over Zurich,Stover had three
goals with Rolph and Ken
Needham picking up a goal
each.
Scoring the Buckeyes'
goals were Ron Desjardine,
Ron Rader, Pete Postill and
John Graham.
In their opening 4-3 victory
over Hensall, Stover, Rolph,
Don Richardson and Haskett
scored. Sherwood's goals
were scored by Jamie
Caldwell, Allan Taylor and
Bill Chipchase.
Sherwoods take
B crown
The Hensall Sherwoods
had a fine showing in the
tournament as they took the
B crown with a 7-5 win over
the Centralia Marauders.
Leading the way for the
Sherwoods was Fred
Campbell with three goals.
The other Sherwood scores
were picked up by Caldwell,
Brian Campbell, Rick
Jets losing 'streak
reaches 10 games
The losing streak of the
Lucan-Ilderton Jets reached
10 games as the result of two
more defeats this week.
The Jets lost a heart-
breaker 5-4 in London
Thursday night and were
trounced 10-2 Friday night
by the Allan Cup champion
Petrolia Squires.
The Jets will be idle until
Saturday night when they
travel to Cambridge to meet
the Hornets. They will be
back at the Ilderton arena
Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. to
take on the Stratford Perths.
Against the Kings,Thurs-
,day night in London, the
Jets held a 4-2 lead with only
five minutes left in the third
period, but, failed to hang on.
Coach Bill White was only
able to send out 12 skaters
including three defencemen.
Missing because of
suspensions from a game of
a week earlier were Ed Robb
and Barry Baynham.
The first period was
scoreless. The Jets started
the scoring at 11:50 of the
middle period when Bob
Dean scored on a three-way
passing combination with
Hugh Mitchell and Dave
Revington.
Ian McTavish upped the
Jets lead to 2-0 at 18:06 as he
completed a successful
passing play with Steve
Proctor and Dave Revington
on a breakaway.
Only 14 seconds later, John
Held put the London club on
the scoreboard for the first
time as he beat Peter
Crasbielin the L -I nets.
Bob Dean notched his
second goal of the night at
7:55 of the final session with
the assist being provided by
Brian Johnston.
Brian Chinnick again cut
the lead to a single goal by
scoring for the Kings at 13:17
only to have the Jets bounce
back with Dave Revington
registering at 13:17 on a play
started by Tom Hodgins and
Bruce Reddick.
John Held replied for
London at 14:50 anff Tom
Whitehead knotted the score
with only two minutes to go
to force play into sudden -
death overtime.
In the extra play action,
Tom Whitehead hit for
London at the 8:58 mark to
end activities for the night.
In Friday's contest in
Petrolia, the Jets were able
•to stay close to the Squires
for the first half of the game.
The score was 1-0 for
Petrolia at the end of the
first period The roof fell in
on the Jets as Petrolia
scored five times in the last
half of the second period.
Hugh Mitchell notched the
first Jets score at 1:47 of the
third period on an unassisted
effort and Chuck Robbins
completed scoring for his
club at 15 minutes con-
verting passes from Jamie
Robb and Barry Baynham.
Captain Barry Edgar led
the Squires scoring attack
with a four goal per-
formance. Ron Wilson and
Jim Willis were next with
two goals apiece and single
scores were fired by Bill
Fairbairn and Doug Zon-
neville.

were Dennis Carty, Mat
.Muller, Cecil Nickles, Mark
Cronyn and Peter Glover.
In their second game of the
tournament, the Sherwoods
hammered Monkton 10-2.
Picking up the hat trick
was Brian Campbell while
Steve Knight and Fred
Campbell had two goals
each. Scoring the other goals
were Caldwell, Ingram and
Murray Connelly.
In other games played,
Lucan defeated the Exeter
Mohawks 6-4, Centralia
edged Brussels 10-9, Lucan
defeated Brussels 14-1, the
Mohawks doubled up the
Marauders 8-4 and Zurich
got by Monkton by the same
score
