Institute at Staffa
entertain pot luck

Thirty Staffa Institute
members, their husbands
and friends, enjoyed a pot
luck dinner in the township
hall Oct. 24.
This was the resolutions
meeting and following the
dinner, Mrs. John
Templeman introduced
Charles Friend. the clerk of
Hibbert township. who gave
everyone an interesting in-
sight into his duties as clerk.
Mr. Friend was thanked by
Mrs. Charles Douglas.
Mrs. John Miller presided
for a short business meeting
when members were
reminded of the Area
Convention in St. Marys. the
District executive banquet
November 6 al Staffa. and
the achievement day for the
4-H project on Needlepoint
in ,Mitchell at the Upper
Thames School November
22. Cards were played to end
an enjoyable evening.
October 27. the Staffa
Swifty Stitchers met at the
home of Mrs. George Vivian
for the seventh and final
meeting. The meeting was
opened with the 4-H Pledge
followed •by the roll call
answered by all.
The secretary's report
was given. We thenproceeded
to answer the craft quiz and
the Needlepoint Evaluation.
Plans for Achievement Day
Nov. 22 were finalized and
the meeting was adjourned.
Mr. and Mrs John
Templeman visited Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Eldie
McNicol, London.

Shipka lady celebrates

Sunday was a special day
for one of Shioka area's
grand old ladies Mrs.Mabel
Desjardine, who celebrated
her 83rd birthday, Sunday at
the home of her daughter
Mrs. Trellis Little. Saturday
evening supper guests with
her were some of her grand
and great grandchildren,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Little,
London, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Little, Leanne and Julia, St.
The
CB&G
are coming
to town
Thomas, and Mr. and Mrs.
O'Nile Forget Of Warwick.
Sunday dinner guests with
her were Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Desjardine, and
Carleen of Huron Park.
Grandaughter Carleen
was celebrating her 16th
birthday.
On the week -end she
received a long distance
phone call with Best Wishes
from son Ches and Pearl
Desjardine of Rainy River
area.
Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Turnbull, of Vancouver,
British Columbia, have
returned home after a two
week holiday in Ontario,
visiting his brother Ed
Turnbull, sisters Mrs.
Florence Hendrick, of
Exeter, Marian and Arlo
Stucky, and other relatives.
Mrs. Alice Keller has been
a patient in Victoria hospital
London this past two weeks,
and is still there receiving
treatment. Friends and
neighbours here wish her a
speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Sweitzer spent the week -end
in Welland with Eva's
mother, Mrs. Elsie Comfort.
Ed Turnbull visited
recently with his nephew,
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Burt
and family at Douglas Point.
Tom and Rosanne Russell,
attended the wedding,
Saturday, of Elizabeth
Kustermans, daughter of
Mr. ana Mrs. Andrew
Kustermans, to Laurence
McFalls, son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Bert McFalls, all of
Parkhill area, at Sacred
Heart church, Parkhill, with
reception and dinner at the
community centre.

held in Parkhill Community
centre, on Saturday evening
November 10th. Tickets are

Ladies meet
at Crediton

Mrs. Gerald Dearing, Mrs.
Hubert Cooper, Mrs. Harvey
Andrews, Mrs. Cliff Kenney
and Mrs. Harvey Hodgins,
attended the two day
Womens Institute area
convention in St. Marys
Thursday and Friday. They
enjoyed hearing the
speakers, Carol Campbell
and Jim Swan of "Morning
Break" at the banquet
Thursday evening.
U.C.W. meets
The ladies of Zion United
Church Women met Thur-
sday evening in the Sunday
School auditorium.
Mrs. Alwinna Galloway
opened the meeting with the
call to worship following
quite music played by Joyce
Preszcator.
The worship service with
the theme of "World Peace"
was conducterd by Alwinna
Galloway, Laura Mathers,
Doris Swartz, Cora Wein and
Nola Ratz,
Gloria Martin sang two
solo's, accompanied by Lelia
Finkbeiner on the piano.
The meeting was turned
over to president, Evelyn
Pickering, who opened the
business portion with a
prayer for guidance.
Irene Finkbeiner reported
on the Indoor Gardening
course held last week in
Exeter. Displays by Marie
Fydenchuk, Grace Fahner
and Irene' were shown.
Anyone interested in
taking advantage of the
short course on Indoor
Gardening are asked to
contact either, Marie
Fydenchuk or Irene Fink-
beiner for more details.
Tenative dates are
November 12 and 13 in the
afternoon. Night course will
follow if enough ladies show
interest in it.
The election of officers
was read by Lorene
Wein. Meeting closed with
prayer. A lovely lunch was
served by, Jean Neil, Grace
Morlock and Alwinna
Galloway.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. William
Smith, are quietly
celebrating their 61st
wedding anniversary on
November 8.
