Senior notes
We found some interesting notes in the first
statistic sheet of the year for the OHA Continental
senior league received from official recorder Nick
Martin of the London Free Press.
While the Continental league is beginning its
eighth year of operation there are only seven players
who have been active participants every year since the
beginning.. - •
They are Barry Baynham. Steve Proctor and
Jamie Robb of the Lucan-Ilderton Jets, Gord Becker
and Chuck Niesen of the Durham Huskies, Gene
McLaren of Woodstock and Brian Chinnick from the
London Kings.
Martin reports that 849 players took part in the
first seven years of Continental league play and he has
a full page on each of them in the league record book.
Bill Abercrombie of Petrolia has scored 16 game
winning goals and shares the record with former L -I
Jet Jacques Cousineau.

couple of weeks as to who some of the celebrities will
be.

way to decide a, winner. fitter playing thrbtigh two
hours of actual competition It seems a shame that
there should be a loser.
Congratulations to the Centennials and the Lucan
club in providing such an excellent brand of soccer and
also to the Grand Bend Colonials in winning the "A"
championship a week earlier.
The South Huron District
High School senior football

were undefeated.

outcome the junior Panthers
will be at home next Tuesday
for the semi-final playoff
game. The final is set for
Saturday. November 10.

Centennials
win title
Exeter Centennials
became B -division cham-
pions of Ausable district
soccer in a five aside shoot-
out following a closely
contested match with Lucan
at Huron Park, Sunday.
The game was decided 1-0
on the penalty -kicks, after
two 15 -minute halves of
overtime failed to break a 1-1
draw in the regular 90
minutes of play time.
Left winger Brad Clausius
had given Exeter the lead at
70 minutes by turning in a
corner -kick from right-
winger Al Hern But Lucan
replied at 85 minutes by
almost repeating Exeter's
goal. when Bob Andrews
headed in a corner.
Both clubs demonstrated
excellent soccer throughout
the two hours of playing
time. It was a spectator's
game. fast full of chances.
The long contest was also
one in which the outcome
during game -time and
overtime could easily have
gone to either club.
In the five -player shoot-
out, all five alternating kicks
for the Centennials went into
the Lucan net from John
Rasenberg, Mike Janyu,
Martin DeBruyn, Al Beattie
and Tony Markus. Lucan
had one of their five shots
stopped by Exeter keeper
Paul VanEsbroeck. The
outcome of the kicks thereby
determined the title won by
Exeter on a stipulated result
of 1-0.
The three -game series for
the B -division championship
had opened with a decisive 4-
0 Centennial win on October
14. Lucan took the second
match 2-1 in overtime after a
1-1 draw on October 21. That
game forced Sunday's final
at Huron Park.
Total goals scored in ac-
tual game time during the
series were: E keter 7.
Lucan 4.
CCAT loses
Thursday the CCAT
players just couldn't find the
range with the Hensall
Sherwoods being on the top
end of a 6-1 score.
Hensall scored the only
goal of the first period when
Steve Knight took a pass
from Brian Campbell and
put one by Dave Erskine.
A goal by Rick Ingram
early in the second gave
Hensall a 2-0 lead as he took
passes from Doug Smith and
Bill Pear3on.
A powerplay goal by
Sherwood Hingle of the
College midway through the
period narrowed the Sher-
--woods-- margftr-to- only . one._
goal. Dave McFadden
picked op the assist.
In the third period the roof
fell in on CCAT with the
Sherwoods scoring four
unanswered goals. Picking
up the Hensall markers were
Brian Campbell, Jamie
Caldwell, Murray Connelly,
Jim Ferguson. Adding the
assists were Fred Campbell
with a pair and singles going'
to Connelly, Greg C Ipbe11,

Juniors in semi-finals, Tuesday
South Huron seniors in H -P final
Thursday, the junior Pan-
thers defeated F.E. Madill of
Wingham 36-16.
Single point wins
A 29 yard punt by Dave
Atthill early in the fourth
quarter went for single
point giving the senior
Panthers their 1-0 win over
Stratford Central.
The only scoring play of
the game was set up by a 50
yard run by Rick Lin-
denfield of the Panthers.
Snowy and muddy field
conditions restricted any
concerted scoring threats.
The South Huron kick from
the Stratford 29 was the
closest the locals could get to
the opposition goal line while
Stratford failed to ever get
inside the Panthers 35 yard
line.
Despite poor footing,
Panther backs did gain a
total of 181 yards. Rick
Lindenfield gained 90 yards
on 12 carries and Rob Pryde
picked up 58 yards on 14
tries.
On defensive side, John
Byrne led the Panthers with
eight key tackles while Doug
Hoffman and Ed Hunter-
Duvar made six key stops
each and four big hits were
made by Mike Burke and
Doug Raymond.
Coach Ron Bogart said he
is optimistic about his
team's chances in Satur-
day's final in Goderich.
Bogart added, "If we play
well, I think we have a good
chance. They beat us 13-11 in
our only other clash, but,
they sure didn't run over us.
