Lucan W.I. members attended as guests as well as other interested people in the community. Mrs. Harold Hardy, president and Mrs. Dick Worthington, secretary took the business part of the meeting. An interesting program was presented based on Tweedsmuir History under the convenership of Mrs. Isobel Simpson and Mrs. Art Hodgins. Philip Lynn gave a most interesting essay on the Wilberforce Colony of Lucan, which he had won second prize in a History Project last May, done in conjunction with the London and Middlesex Historical Societys History Fair. Catherine Lynn, presented her project which gave her third prize in the same competition but in the slide - tape division Catherine's project, was on the history of Clandeboye. She showed slides of people and places of interest in Clandeboye, past and present and gave the commentary rather than using a tape. A most interesting presentation! Also, enjoyed by all was the slide presentation and com- mentary of the History of the Railroads in Southwestern Ontario by Chris Andreae, assistant curator of the Lambton Heritage Museum at Grand Bend. And by all means last but not least was delightful Lori Noyes, of Lucan, who sang twice fora very appreciative audience. This band is only formed every two years and orginated in Hamilton this year. Concerts were presented at Hamilton City Hall and Ontario Place before going overseas. Each year hunting accidents bring tragedy to many families, usually because the most simple rules have been broken. What can you do? Never consume alcohol before or during a hunt. Know the identifying features of the game you intend to hunt. Never shoot in the direction of buildings or livestock. You cannot depend on the common sense of the hunter beside you --wear bright orange. The handling of firearms requires great care. The Ontario Provincial Police Force reminds you that there are several basic gurt- handling rules. Always handle a gun as if it were loaded. _ Never climb a tree or fence with a loaded firearm. Always carry your gun so that you can control the direction of the muzzle. Unload unattended firearms. Few hunting deaths are accidents --they are usually caused by negligence. With some -thought and care most of them could have- been prevented. Don't be at either end of an "accident". •use common sense measures and enjoy a safe hunting trip. Thompson had no children of their own, they were parents to several nieces and nephews who lost their parents at an early age. Mrs. Thompson was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Exeter, a former member of Christ Anglican Church, McGillivray Twp, and a member for many years of the Clandeboye Women's Institute.
