4-H girls elect officers
Thames Road women hear talk on boat people

Thirty-nine ladies and two
gentleman had their supper
at the Exeter Golf and
Country Club Barn Monday
evening. It was the first
meeting of the United
Church Women since the
summer.
After the bountiful
smorgasbord supper, Mrs.
Ken Duncan welcomed
everyone. All reported the
Purpose and sang the hymn
"O God Our Help in Ages
Past."
The theme for the meeting
was "Time" Mrs. Paul
Passmore read the
Scripture Lesson which was
about time. Reading On
Time and Gods Minute were
read by Mrs. Arnold Cann,
and she also led in prayer.
A reading Time Is was
read by Mrs. Ken Duncan.
Mrs. Fred Johns led in a sing
song with Mrs. Reg Hodgert
at the piano.
Mrs. Ken Duncan called on
Mr. Ross Hargreaves who
introduced Mr: Gerry
Holland of Stratford who is
co-ordinator for the Boat
People and he spoke on that
subject. Mrs. Paul Passmore
Family in Shipka district
host for exchange student

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cleve
and family are sponsoring an
exchange student for a year,
through the International
Fellowship plan.
The student is Adriana
Mireya Medinilla, of Mexico
City, who is 18 years old, and
attending South Huron
District High School.
Personals
Bonnie Erickson is a
patient in St. Joseph's
hospital, London, where she
underwent knee surgery last
Tuesday. Your Shipka
friends and neighbours wish
you a speedy recovery,
Bonnie.
Visitors Friday with Bev
and Sherri -Lynn Keller,
were Bev's mother Mrs. Roy
Kirk, Moorefield, and her
sister Barbara Higby and
Scotty, of Stratford.
Kathy Janisse, and her
daughters Renee and
Angela, of Tecumseh, spent
holidays last week at her
sisters, Rosanne and Tom
Russell, Jacquie and Jennie.
On Saturday Rosanne,
Tom and Kathy, attended the
wedding of the girls cousin,
Susan Parker, to Stephen
Easterby, at Grace United
church, Sarnia, with dinner
and reception at the Polish
hall.
Nancy Baker, Kitchener,
and Donna Baker, Sarnia,
spent the week -end at their
parents here.
Warrant Officer, Tom
Miller, of Ottawa, visited
Saturday with his aunt and
uncle, Laura and Oscar
Miller and other relatives in
Dashwood and Exeter.
Harvey and Gloria
Beierling, Kevin and
Dwight, Mrs. Thelma
Beierling and Freida, were
dinner guests, Sunday, with
Gloria's parents and
brother, Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Adkins and James,
of Zurich area. The occasion
was Kevin's 2nd bir-
thday. Also attending was
Kevin's great grandfather,
Henry Adkins.
Mrs. Arnold Keller has
returned home after being
hospitalized a month. First
at South Huron in Exeter,
and then in Victoria in
London. '
Visitors on the week -end
with Keller's Sr. were Mr.
and Mrs. Max Windsor,
Exeter, and Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Gibson, and Mark of
Crediton.

The first meeting of the 4-
H Hurondale 1, needlepoint
club was held recently at the
home of leader Mrs. Nancy
Hodgert. The other leader is
Mrs. Darlene Passmore.
The election of officers
resulted as follows:
president -Cheryl Cann; vice
president -Karen Cottle;
secretary -Cheryl Stewart
and Diane Ballantyne; press
reporter -Cheryl Stewart;
treasurer -Cathy Cottle.
Nancy and Darlene led the
meeting discussing canvas,
yarns, needles and scissors.

Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Hodgert were treated to
supper in London on Tuesday
evening September 11 by the
May families and they then
went to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. May 'of London for the
rest of the evening.
Wednesday evening Mr.
and Mrs. Hodgert were
treated to supper in Exeter
by the Hodgert families and
then they went to the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Cann
for the evening, Friday
evening Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Hodgert and Mr. and Mrs.
William Rohde went to
London for supper and then
to a show.
The occasion was the 25th
Wedding anniversary for Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Hodgert and
the 31st for Mr. and Mrs.
William Rohde which was on
September 11.
Miss Pauline Pym,
Hamilton, Miss Barbara
Miller, Toronto and Miss
Laurel Hodgert, St.
Catharines, spent the week-
end at their homes here.
Several people from the
community attended Kirkton
Fair Saturday. Among those
were Kenneth Duncan and
his team of show horses.
Group W. of the United
Church Women under the
leadership of Mrs. Edwin
Miller and Mrs. William
Rowcliffe catered to the
Hulley -Bray wedding in the
church Saturday afternoon.
Group U. of the U.C.W.
under the leadership of Mrs.
Jack Stewart and Mrs. Fred
Johns looked after the lunch
for the reception and dance
at the Exeter Golf and
Country Club. Many people
from this community at-
tended the reception and
dance.
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Ben-
neweis, Brodhagen visited
Sunday afternoon with Mr. &
Mrs. William Tohde.
Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde
and Calvin were Sunday
supper guests with Mr. &
Mrs. Glenn Rohde.
Mr. & Mrs. George Kellett
were Sunday lunch guests
with Mr. & Mrs. Art Heard of
