Family visit California

Dr. Lorne S. "Cy" Tiernan,
70 an ophthalmologist in
Middletown, N.Y. for 33
years died unexpectedly in
St. Lukes Hospital, New
York City, Monday August
20.
Dr. Tiernan practiced in
Otesville at the start of
World War II. He entered the
Army medical corps as a
lieutenant and'was stationed
initially in Australia• later
serving in Borneo and
various posts in the South
Pacific. After more than two
years of service he was
discharged as a_captain.
Dr. Tieman was born on
May 19. 1909 in Dashwood the
son of David and Fanny Snell
Tieman. He was married
October 15, 1945 in Long
Beach California, to the
former Theodora David. He
was a graduate of the
University of Western
Ontario Medical College in
London also a graduate of
Harvard Medical College.
. While living in Otisville
prior to the war, he was the
physician for the Otisville
Sctiool District. Besides an
office in Otisville, Dr.
Tieman maintained an office
in Middletown.
After the war he returned
to and specialized in
ophthamology. He was a
member of Hoffman
Masonic Lodge in Mid-
dletown and the Middletown
Elks Lodge. the American
Medical Association and
past president ofthe. Orange
County Medical Society. He
was the latter's represen-
tative concerned with Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of
Greater New York.
He was also past president
of the Middletown . Kiwanis
Club, a merrj�ber of the
Middletown 'Chamber of
Commerce. on the staff of
Horton Memorial Hospital,
Middletown and consulting
eye doctor for the Veterans
Administrations Hospital at
Castle Point. In 1938 he was
certified as• an Orange
County Medical examiner.
He was also a member of
the Webb Horton Memorial
Presbyterian Church,
Middletown.
Survivors include his wife
at home; a son, David L. of
Roslyn Harbor; a brother
Mervyn. Dashwood and two
sisters, Mrs. Ann Cook,
Toronto and Mrs. Ruth
Mutch of Clinton as well as
several nieces and a nephew.
_ Memorial services were
held Saturday at Webb
Horton Memorial
Presbyterian Church, with
Rev. James MacNaughton,
pastor officiating.

trip Thursday, are to be on
the main corner at 8.20 a.m.
Visit California
Mr..and Mrs. Jack Gaiser,
Kim and Lynn accompanied
by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Burke
and Susan of Brampton flew
to California where they
spent an exciting week
visiting Disney Land,
Universal Studios, Knotts
Dairy Farm and the borders
of Mexico.
Celebrate birthdays
The Youth of Zion
Lutheran church met August
19 opening with a prayer by
Jonathan Mellecke. Bible
Study was done by looking up
answers to questions asked
by David Stephen. The
business was dealt with
followed by cake and ice
cream as there were three
birthdays, Doris Stephen,
Judith Mellecke and Lisa
Miller.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cud -
more, Grand Bend, en-
,ertained members of their
family recently at a steak
barbecue. Those present
were Mr. and Mrs. Albert.
Rader, Mr. and Mrs.
George Tieman, Mr. and
Mrs:Gary Tieman, Mr. and
Mrs. Jamie Regier and
Christopher.
Michael Rader vacationed
with his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Emerson Wein,
Crediton. -
Stacey Rader spent a few
days with cousins Amy and
Jodi Glavin, Crediton, last
week.
Pall bearers for the late
Pearl Kraft were Bill Kraft,
Bob and Bill Hoffman, Barry
Baynham, Sheldon Wein Jr.
and Don Gaiser.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn
Tieman and Mrs. Bob
Cornelius, Sarnia, attended
the funeral of the late Bill
Mutch, husband of Ruth
'Tiernan at Clinton, Friday.

Letta Taylor, Mrs. Hilda
Rader, Helen Nadiger, Mrs.
Pearl Miller and Mrs. Ross
Love attended the Com-
munity Conference in Exeter
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Hoffman and their grand-
sons, Jeff, Randy and Terry
Hoffman spent a few days at
Mackinac Island last week.
Miss Sharon Martene,
Medicine Hat, Alberta,
vacationed with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Martene and other relatives.
Mrs. Marjorie Knight,
London, and Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Knight, Niagara -on -the -
lake were Saturday supper
guests with Mr. and Mts.
Irvin Rader.
Mr. aKtd Mrs. Bob Stormes
and family, St. Thomas
visited with Mrs. Lorne
Tieman and Mr. and Mrs.
David Tieman, Middletown,
New York, last week.
Flowers in the church
were in loving memory of
Pearl Kraft and Mrs. Edith
Richards.
Mrs. Edith Miller formerly
of Dashwood and
Hensall, and daughter Mrs.
Robert Annan. Nancy and
Blair Timmins, stayed with
Mrs. Marie Pask and Mrs.
Tillie Tetreau, Zurich last
week. They also visited with
relatives and friends.
