WILLIAM ROHDE A community bridal shower was held on Wed- nesday evening for Miss Janet Bray bride -elect of September. About 100 ladies and girls attended. To the strains of "To -day" played by Brenda Ballan- tyne Janet was escorted by Carolyn Knight to a chair underneath a prettily decorated lawn umbrella. Gladys Miller welcomed everyone and hoped they enjoyed the evening. Bar- bara Ballantyne passed out cards for recipes which each one was to write and put it in a recipe box for Janet. Sharon Passmore gave a humorous reading. A garde .of musical rings were played with Ferne Stewart and Leone Cottle being the winners. Two short skits were given with Joyce Cunnington, Melanie Miller and Sharon Passmore taking part. Rhoda Rohde read a well worded address and Wendy Ballantyne wheeled in a wheelbarrow filled with many useful and beautiful gifts. After opening her gifts Janet thanked everyone and invited them to Open House on Sunday, September 9. All joined in singing "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow." Cake, ice cream and beverage brought an enjoyable evening to a close. All the ladies wishing to go to Exeter Golf Country Club for supper and the U.C.W. meeting on Monday evening September 10 at 6:30 P.M. please let your grpup leaders know by September lst. Mrs. John Rodd and Mrs. Lloyd Jaques attended Alma College School for Leaders, Landon Conference at St. Thomas for a fttw days. Miss Sandy Weaver from Whitestone. Indiana visited for a week with Catvin Rodd. This was a 411 exchange as ('aloin had visited the Dull family in Indiana earlier this summer. Miss Jean 'Copeland visited Sunday .evening with Mrs Blanche Copeland of London. Kippen late Jack Smith at the Lindsay Funeral Home St. Marys Sunday afternoon. The late Jack Smith was the mailman for RR 1 Woodham for over 35 years. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Luther, Sarnia, visited Saturday and Mrs. Parker, Mildmay visited Sunday with Mrs. Hazel Jeffery. Miss Barbara Millen; Toronto spent the weekend atrher home here. Miss Kira Riehl com- mences her training Tuesday, August 28 as a nurse in Stratford General Hospital. Mr.. and Mrs. W.C. Bloesing. and Louella Robinson, Sarasota, Florida, Mrs. Garnet Passmore, Sarnia, Mr. and Mrs. William Harper, Mitchell, Mr.. and Mrs. Robert Ulch, Russeldale were Tuesday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne. Later the cousins had a familrrathering for supper on Tuesday evening at thehomeof Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hackney, Exeter. David, Robbie and Richard Ballantyne of Thamesford spent the weekend with their grand- parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne.
