Christopher School report discourages unauthorized The Huron County Board of Education plans to in- vestigate ways school of- ficials can get - rid of unauthorized persons in county schools. The hoard received a memo from the ministry of education at its August session which dealt with methods teachers and principals can use to cope kith persons on school property uninvited. The memo is attached to a lengthy report on the.matter and the board. rather than attempts to delve into the report. sent it to its management committee- to - look into and come up with recommendations for policy. Director of education John Cochrane told the board the report could he useful to school personnel. He said teachers here sometimes have problems with people corning in the schools and misbehaving.. He saki for- mer students come back to see a buddy or someone comes in the school to see a - girlfrtend and the uninvited guests give teachers a hard time. E naarranarpOqe so Times -Advocate, August 22, 1979 Page 3 Hope campaign a success The South Huron and district association for the mentally handicapped has just concluded its most successful Flowers of Hope campaign ever, with over $12,000 being raised. Association director Don Campbell said the total of $12,278.97 was almost $300 more than the goal of the campaign. Making reference to the Cash for Life lottery. Camp- bell said the' Huron association does not sell tickets as it believes in the "door to door" approach. He added the local canvass is one of the largest if not the largest in the prbvinc•e. ))ver 200 canvassers covered the area served by the association. Campbell said. The following is a break- down of the canvass by municipa0ty: Exeter, 1.617.26: Hensall 535.00: Zurich 8.12.45: School vandalism Continued from front page said about vandalism the better. Elliott said a police chief in the county told some trustees' that media publicity of vandalism encourages vandals. Lucknow trustee Marion Zinn was in obvious agreement with the chief and suggested that., reporters at the hoard of •education meeting play down van - Trustees were also at a loss to explain why ('lintoo was so much harder hit than any other school. Not only do vandals do more damage at Central Huron they are far more consistent. From April to June vandals in Clinton cost the board $1.275 25 In 41 incidents of vandalism. South Huron was another favorite spot for vandals who, in 15 incidents caused $789.12 worth ' of damage Third in line was Clinton. Public School with 14 " ir. cidents that cost 5179.114. Trustees . were not prepared to lay any blame for the vandalism. Elliott said there was no indication students were causing the problem claiming it could be done on weekends or after school. The chairman added the only other thing lie could think of was that Central Huron was used for many special courses that students are bused into the school. to take He said the students from outside the area may not have the pride in the school students from Clinton would have. . No action was taken to delve into the problem of vandalism any further. The board seemed prepared to accept the suggestion of some police and turn the other cheek. No indication was given if administrators would continue to monitor vandalism '1'uckersmith 447.00; Crediton 100.00; Bayfield 655.69; Hay 1,550.05; Grand Bend 1,477.56; Londesboro Area 785 On.
