The Grand Bend
"Colonials" barely held on to
their no -loss record Sunday
when the Exeter senior
soccer team gave them some
tough competition. Grand
Bend came away with a 2 to 1
victory after the close
match. Dave Nolan and
Kevin Simmonds scored for
the "Colonials." Grand Bend
meets Nairn at home next
Sunday afternoon.
.The Grand Bend Peewees
won the league trophy for
first place going into the
playoffs The Peewees tied
Clinton 2 to 2 in their game
Friday. but that was still
enough to take the first place
title. Mark Relouw and Joe
M ontntersteeg scored the
goals.
The peewees came from
behind to get to first place.
Two weeks ago they lost to
Kincardine 8 to 4. Joe
Mommersteeg scored three
goals while Rob Mennen took
one in that game. In their
next -game they managed a
come back beating Kin-
cardine 8 to 2. Rob Mennen
scored three goals. Joe
Mommersteeg got two, Mark
Relouw also got two and
Greg Greatrex scored one.

a resident of Southcott Pines.
says some of her works are
for sale. while others- she
would like to keep.
Mrs. Junker's works are in
the library representing the
Grand Bend Art Club. The
club is made up of members
from Grand Cove. Southcott
Pines. Beach O'Pines. Dash-
wood and trtthe surrounding
area. They meet Wednesday
nights in the village hall and
each member works+i.,
own medium While many
are oil.painters. others work
in water colors and acrylics.
Occasionally they sponsor
workshops in other art forms
such as batik
Mrs. Junker has been
' doing oil paintings since 1965
when she took a course in it
Some of her works are :al -
tractive still lifes, while
others are local scenes. One
winter scene shows damage
along Grated Bend's beach
and pier as a reault of a se-
vere ice storm.
Another scene features a
view of the trees ,in the
'
sometimes sits out of doors
and works on the paintings
while other times she works
from a photograph.
She says the Art Club
enjoys 'the fellowship of
working together. As well, -
they learn from one another
in such areas as mixing
colors. "Some weeks we get
lots done, other weeks not as
much, she says.

Ensemble under the
leadership of Mike Ibsen. of
London.
The members cf the group
are Randall Hoover and
Gary Grimble. on trumpets.
Mike Ibsen. horn. Bob
Phillips -trombone. and
Peter Hysen-bass trombone.
The work of this group is
funded by the London
Musicians Association.
Rev. H. Moore's sermon
topic was "Just what is a
blessing'" and scripture
from Psalm 103.
United Church news
A special appeal was made

Oxford tornado relief fund
with envelopes provided
A coffee hour followed the
United Church morning
service.
At 1.30 p m a concert in
the park in - the outdoor
service area. was given by
the Brass Ensemble from
London.

bridge game held last

John's Parish hall were
north -south, Dorothy Child
and Marie Weetman east -
west. Helen and Manning
Jamieson.

Church of God ladies herd
their August meeting. at the
church, Thursday evening.
Ten. ladies answered the
roll call by exchange of
pickle recipes. Theme of this
meeting was gardens.
The worship was taken by
Mrs. Marilyn MacGregor.
Mrs. Janet Desjardine
gave a study talk on
"Pockets of Prayer." which
she demonstrated with paper
pockets.
President. Mrs. Katie
Vincent. presided for the
business.
Hostess, Mrs. Dorothy
MacGregor served a
delicious lunch.
Folks around town
Elgin Adams returned
home Friday from Strathroy
hospital, where he was
.hospital,
several days
and underwent minor
surgery.
Visitors, Sunday with Mr
and Mrs. Adams were Mr
and Mrs. Lanny Scrimegour,
Angela and Jeff, of London
Around 25 members of the
Couples Club and their
children travelled Sunday, to
Springbank and visited
Storybook Gardens, and had
a picnic lunch.
Beulah Holt attended the
wedding Saturday', of her
niece Deborah, daughter of
Erwin Holt and the late Mrs.
Holt, to Steve Martin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Martin,
of Wallenstein, at Grace
Bible Chapel, Parkhill. The
young couple are leaving to
live in Calgary, Alberta.

Cook family, held a reunion
picnic Sunday, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morenz,
Glenda and Tammy.

Hartford city Indiana, spent
last week with Mr. and Mrs
Allan Walper. Marilyn and
Steven.
Pamera is a 4-11 exchange
delegate. Marilyn had spent

The Pinery OPP detach-
ment laid 54 charges under
the liquor license act during
the week of August 5 to 11.
They charged 33 people
under the provincial parks
act and 20 under the highway
traffic act. One charge was
laid under the narcotic
control act.
Grand Bend detachment of
the Ontario Provincial
Police laid 17 charges under
the liquor license act, and
one narcotic control act
charge. About 35 people were
charged under the highway
traffic act, and one
suspended driver was
charged. They received two
inquiries • for missing per-
sons, and one was located.
The Grand Bend police
investigated three thefts and
two cases of wilful damage.
They also investigated four
minor vehicle accidents. •
