Donnellys are here!
"The Do-pnellys are here!"
Although that statement
might have struck fear into
the hearts of the residents of
Lucap,-one hundred years
ago, it has a different
meaning in Blyth, Ontario
today.
Rehearsals for "The Death`
of the Donnellys" began at
the Blyth Summer Festival
this week, and writer Ted
Johns director Paul
Thompson and Theatre
Passe Muraille are busy
putting together their
spectacular version of the
Donnellys saga. The Don-
nellys family has given grist
to the mill of many writers
and playwrights over the
past few years, and small
wonder, for their exploits
and misadventures contain
some ,of the most dramatic
and controversial incidents
in Canadian history.
Theatre Passe Muruille's
version of the legend poses
a dilem ' '-were the Don-
nellys ally true villains
who rrorized the coun-
tryside, or were they
scapegoats for every mishap
in Biddulptl township? No
matter what side of the fence
you stand on, the music and
action will keep you stepping
lively until the final curtain.
