Short race is exciting
By JOY SCHEIFELE
The two kilometre race
was as exciting for 'the
young participants as the
IDK road race had been for
the more seasoned runners
shortly before. In the ex-
treme heat the 17 boys took
their places to mark the
first 2K race in the Ailsa
Craig Gala Days celebra-
tion. .
The race was designed es-
pecially for those under 11,
with the 4K for those 11 to 14
years. It followed a shorter
distance of major road race
along Queen Street
Cameron Macdonald, RR
1 Ailsa Craig took first place
running the distance of 9 08
Rick Rosu-Myles. Parkhill
captured second place with
Dale Roth of Stratford com-
ing in third.
In the girls race Lisa
Beattie of London ran in
12.23. Wendy NIolinaux of
Strathroy placed second and
third place went to Lori
Macdonald• of RR 1 Ailsa
Craig.
In the boys' 41( meet Brian
Burridge,, London made Qin
distance in 16.06. Jeff
Harmer, Parkhill followed
in second place and Wayne
MacGregor. Ailsa Craig
took third.
Diana Dixon, Ailsa Craig
took the girls division with
Wendy Currie of RR 3 Den-
field behind her.
In all 30 young runners
took part in the new event
and all showed great
enthusiasm and good
sportsmanship.
