Saveway
ball club
wins two
The Exeter Saveway
fastball club turned in two
excellent performances this
week in the Southwestern
Fastball Association.
The Exeter club downed
Poplar Hill by an 8-2 score
Tuesday and Thursday night
they blanked Ailsa Craig 5-0.
The next action for the
Saveway club will be
tomorrow bight, Thursday
when they. meet West Cor-
ners ilk a 9 p.ni. contest at
Exeter Community Park.

Tuesday Exeter Saveway
travelled to Poplar Hill and
jumped into a 5-0 lead in the
very first inning.
Doug Pearson walked,
Dan Heywood and Brion
Penhale singled, Paul
McKnight doubled, Brian
Hodgins singled and John
Gillespie and Brian Taylor
reached first on errors.
Poplar Hill scored their
only two runs in the bottom
of the second as they
collected four hits.
Saveway got two runs back
in the top of the third as
Brian Hodgins led off with a
single. John Gillespie walked
and both scored on Dave
Watson's triple.
They added their final run
in the fourth as Dennis
Bierling tripled and scored
on Dan Heywood's sacrifice
fly.'
Ron Daniels went the
distance for Poplar Hill
giving up 10 hits while
striking out one batter. Brian
Hodgins went the distance
for Saveway allowing only
four hits while striking out
six batters.

Thursday night, Saveway
opened the scoring in the
second inning as John
Gillespie walked, Dave
Watson tripled him home
and he scored on Brian
Taylor's single.
They went ahead 4-0 in the
third inning as Dan Heywood
reached first on •an error,
Brion Penhale singled and he
scored on Brian Hodgins
sacrifice flu.
They added their final run
in the bottom of the fifth as
Doug Pearson and Dan
Heywood singled and one run
scored on Brian Hodgins'
sacrifice fly.
Gary Wilcox pitched for
Ailsa Craig giving up five
hits.
Brian Hodgins tossed a
three hitter for Saveway
striking out nine batters.
Guenther best
With a 39
Jim Guenther with three
pars and two birdies
recorded .a 39 to record the
low gross score in the "A"
flight at Tuesday's regular
men's night at the Ironwood
golf course.
Doug Ellison was second
with a 40 a im-Evans.and
Gabby D were tied for low
net score at 35.
In 'the "B" flight Don
Heywood was tops with 43
and Don Wells second at 45
for low gross while low net
honours went to Jim Mills
and Fred Mommersteeg at
34.
The "C" flight low gross
scorer was Bob McIntosh at
45 while Marvin Bower was
best in low net at 35. The "D"
flight, winners were Jerry
Arnold in gross at 46 and
Chan Livingstone in low net
at 35.
Steve Pearce fired a 39 to
take the juvenile division
championship. Wayne
Parsons was -second.
Don Gifford was closest to
the pin with his shot from the
fourth tee.
Anderson
scores 98
John Anderson hit 98 out of
100 targets to -lead 27 com-
petitors at Monday's regular
shoot of the Kippen gun club.
Next with 50 straight hits
was,Burt Mahaffey. Even at
25 were Calvin Christie and
Jamie Caldwell. Scoring 24
each were Brian Beer,
Terry Baker, BojT. iso
Paul Ritchie. W � : �
and Kevin Lamport.
John Vessels and Harrison.
Schoch were in at 23, Brad
Mann scored 21. Next came
Lloyd Venner, Allan Bell,
Grant McGregor, Roy
Lamport, and Bob Caldwell
at 20.
Completing the scorers
were Al Kyle 19, Jack Bell,
Todd Weber 17, Bob Baker 16 i
and Robert McGregor and
Wayne McBride 15.
