All soccer teams to see action this week
EXETER - This week the 10
teams of the Exeter soccer club will
all sec action in the various age
groups. A whole summer of soccer
is ahead of us.
It seems all the problems have
been ironed out and everyone is
roaring to go. A few teams started
last week.
The girls .under 11 team playing
in the West Middlesex Youth soc-
cer league started the season on a
winning note. The girls were full
value for their 4-0 shut out over
Coldstream.
Presley Mayer led the way with a
two goal performance. Single goals
were scored by Cathy Wagner and
Erin McLeod. Coach Susan Hulley
was very pleased with the way all
the girls performed in their first
game of the season.
In other action this week the Ex-
eter under 17 boys travelled to Del-
aware for their first game of the
season. Ryan Hern was set up by
Justin O'Rourke for •an early goal
but Delaware fought back and took
a 2-1 lead in the second half. The
Exeter boys just could not buy a
goal.
Chris Eccles hit the crossbar
twice and other forwards missed ex-.
cellent chances to score but the
score remained 2-1 in favor of Dela-
ware. Justin O'Rourke and Greg

Greys continue winning pattern as
they edge. St. Pauls by a 4-3 count
EXETER - The Exeter Greys
continued their unbeaten ways in
the South Perth Ladies Fastball
League with a May 24 victory over
St. Pauls by a score of 4-3.
The Greys scored three times in
fhc bottom of the third inning and
scored what proved to be the win-
ning tally in the fifth frame. St.
Pauls scnt two runners home in
the fifth and another in the follow-
ing inning, but wcrc unable to get
the equalizer.
Elaine Gould started off the Exet-
er three run rally by reaching first
on a fielding error by the St. Pauls
shortstop. Tammy Mather[ tripled
home the first run and scored as
Heidi Elliott bashed out a single.
Elliott completed the bases cycle
as Sandra Burns singled and Sandi
Frcmlin was safe on an error.
Brenda Bell scored the winning
run in the fifth. Loading off she was
safe on an error and counted on a
fielder's choice and a sacrifice by
Frcmlin.
Patti Down went the first four in-
nings on the mound for the Greys.
She allowed only three well scat-
tered hits in facing only 15 batters
in her pitching stint.
Qiaii Bauerman tossed the final
three innings and was touched for
all the runs.
The Greys will be in.Denfield,
Thursday night and visit Crediton
Monday night to -meet the Cow-
girls,
Lamport were excellent for Exeter.
All three squirt teams saw action
this week in the Lucan and District
soccer league. Exeter I and Exeter II
squared off against each other. Both
teams were very evenly matched.
There were numerous scoring
chances on both sides with Greg
Geoffrey and Michael Wilhelm
coming close to scoring the winner
for their respective teams but in the
end a 0-0 tie was a good reflection
of the play.
Brendan Kraftcheck played well
for Exeter I and Jason Corbett and
Kerianne O'Rourke played well for
Exeter II.
Exeter III took on Lucan I and
came away with a well deserved 4-0
shut out. The Exeter youngsters
played well for their first game of
the season. Veterans Ben Cottrell
and Michael Ford led the team with
two goals each. Ryan Beattie and
Robert DeVries played an excellent
game for Exeter III.
The executive wouldlike to wel-
come the new coaches and their as-
sistants and we wish you good
sportsmanship and the best for the
upcoming season.
Best wishes also to tyke coach
Henri Debruyn who is running his
tyke practice with his arm in a cast.
Hope it comes off soon Henri.

Centennials lose after
lacklustre performance
EXETER - Exeter Centennial
Senior Soccer team was downed by
a score of 2 to 0. on Sunday by a
visiting team from London by the
name of Real West.
Exeter's opposition came to play
in -the heat but Exeter seemed to
lack this necessary punch to play.
The home team failed to gain and
keep possession of the ball for any
great length of time.
Craig Winbow, Exeter's goalie
made a diving save to rob a breaka-
way coming in, and in the process
received a fractured nose. George
McEwan filled in very well in net
but his presence was missed in the
front line of attack.
Real West went up 1 to 0 about
twenty minutes into the second
half, and this seemed to visably
strengthen them defensively. They
were able to turn the tide on several
occasions but Exeter could not get a
break.
The team travels on Sunday, June
5 to compete against Taxandria Fal-
cons. The following Sunday, June
12, Strathroy comes to play Exeter
at home at 2 p.m. Any support is
welcome.
Bantams get win and tie
EXETER - The Exeter bantam
baseball team picked up a victory
and a tic in their first two regularly
scheduled games of the season.
On May 23; the Exeter young-

wood and two days later the*
squeezed out a 12-11 win over
Goderich.
The bantams are at home for two
games this week. Tonight, Wed-
nesday, they play host to Dash-
wood and Friday again on the Exet-
er community park diamond,
Seaford) will provide the opposi-
tion.
In the tie with Dashwood,Jim
Ahrens went the distance on the
mound for Exeter. He struck out
nine and only walked three oppos-
ing batters. Jason Heywood turned
in a strong effort behind the plate.
The Exeter hit total was six. They
were all singles coming from the
bats of Jamie Cornish, Mark Rus-
sell, Ryan Lindenfield, Darren Ma-
son, Jason Woytowich and Fred
Steciuk.
Darren Mason made a good im-
pression in his outing as a starting
pitcher in the win over Goderich.
He struck out five of the 11 batters
he faced and only handed out two
walks. Mark Russell and David
Schwindt finished up in relief roles.
Schwindt also led his team at the
plate with a grand slam home run to
the opposite field, a double, two
singles and batted in seven runs.
Mark Russell added a double
while singles were contributed by
Rob Kraemer, Jason Woytowich
and Shawn McFalls.
Only one outing
for lawn. bowlers
EXETER - Due to cool weather
early in the week, regular play at
the Exeter lawn bowling club was
restricted to Saturday night's activi-
ties.

win and a score of 17 plus two.

score of 17 and Ray Smith at 15.

plus two gave the women's high
