Times-Advocate, 1988-06-01, Page 11News from Revival Centre LUCAN - The 70th annual Blos- som Tea, sponsored by Women's Ministries of Lucan Revival Cen- tre, was held Wednesday evening in the Fellowship Ilall of the church. Guests were served a lovely variety of desserts, coffee, and tea. The foyer and Fellowship Hall were decorated with lilacs, peonies, beautifully set off with lamps in the Fellowship Hall, giving indirect -lighting. Each table had a prettily embroidered place mat with a little potted plant set on it for a centre- piece. President Mrs. June Henry wel- comed the guests. While Mrs. Lor- raine Armitage played the piano, Mrs. Judi Ross led in chorus sing- ing. Led by Mrs. Ross, a girl's quartet of Miss Vicky Sumners, Es- ther Sloetjes, Estee Rancourt, and Patti Pimperton, sang Gifts of .toy. Mrs. Shirley Dorman demonstrat- ed her crafts. First she showed a heart shaped wreath made from a coat hanger wrapped with two col- ors of materials, flowers, and 'a bow. While Mrs. Jenkins held up other crafts, which Mrs. Dorman described, Mrs. Dorman showed how to make this wreath. She showed decorated wall hangings made from aluminum pie plates, frilled material, and bows and flow- ers. A pretty article was a miniature window, all framed, with curtains, and window box. Tiny hats, ani- mals, little wooden boxes, bars of soap, all decorated with net, flow- ers, frilly material, made decorative articles suitable for gifts. Mrs. Henry presented prizes to la- dies who were first up by 5:00 a.m. that day; who had made a gift for someone that week; who had the most children and grandchildren, and the lady who came the farthest. Each received one of the embroi- dered placcmats. The girls' quartet sang Jesus, You arc King of My Heart, with Mrs. Ross leading all in singing the chorus. Mrs. Henry introduced guest speaker, Mrs. Marilyn Jenken. Mrs. Jenken jokingly said they had all feasted on lovely desserts, while to- morrow night was Weight Watchers night. She read Proverbs 31:10-31. This scripture gives guidelines for all women. Rubies arc precious jewels, yet a virtuous woman is more valu- able. Proverbs 12:4 says a virtuous woman is a crown to her husband. Mrs. Jenkins encouraged the ladies to be exhorters of their husbands, to build their confidence and to accen- tuate their positive traits, to help thcm to accomplish what he is good at. The virtuous woman en- joys her work to make her homclife more pleasurable. Tim Kritzer led the worship in song Sunday morning. Rev. Mrs. Good is proving to London June 1. Pieter Schinkleshoek from llag- gai 1:1-8, said verse 6 showed it is foolish to earn money then put it in a bag full of holes. People so often complain they have nothing, yet their closets are full of clothes. This is like putting your money in a holey bag. People in Lucan with a severe water shortage know they will have to pay to get a pipeline to bring in abundant water. With God's pipe- line we kayo to pay a little to get something back. In 11 Chronicles 31:5-19 we read of people freely bringing offerings for the house of God. When Christians give back to the Lord what is rightfully God's, the tithe, God will richly bless them. Sunday evening Pieter Schinkle- shock conducted the service. Rev. Roger Mason ministered from Acts 3:1-10. This illustrated one of the signs and wonders God wrought through the apostles foretold in Acts 2:43. Upcoming events - Sunday June 5 at 7:00 p.m. , Testimony of Jack Wild. June 19 - Evening Preaching Ser- ies on Marriage and the Family.
