Kitchener Lioness at Exeter
Irom Kitchener spoke to the Lio-
ness Club on the commitment to
Lionism and the part Lioness
groups play within the structure.
She commented on all Lioness
Clubs and their efforts and dona-
tions to their communities and
sponsored Lion's projects.
New Lioness member Joyce
Brown was inducted into the•&xeter
Lioness Club by sponsoring mem-
ber Lioness Peg Seller.
Many' up -coming events were

EXETER - The Exeter Lioness
Club held their regular spring meet-
ings on March 28 and April 25 at
the Exeter Masonic Hall, with the
Eastern Star ladies serving most de-
licious meals at both meetings.
At the March meeting the Lio-
ness had a speaker from the Sun-
shine Foundation of London ex-
plain the background of the concept
of granting wishes to terminally ill .
children. This organization,. along
with the parent organization, have
sponsored many group trips across
Canada and the U.S., such as day
Trips to Disneyland. Individual
wishes. have been granted for chil-
dren to meet sport stars, important
individuals and attend special
events. A donation in the amount
of S1,000.00 was given to the Sun-
shine Foundation from the proceeds
of the Winter Chicken Barbecue.
- • The March of Dimes canvass re-
alized S2,889,79 from Exeter in
19x8. -

sociate Chairperson Janet Dawson
Women Today receive grant
CLINTON - Women Today re-
ceived word from the provincial
government on May 12 that it has
received approval for a two year
project grant under the Ministry of
Health's Health Promotion Branch.
The proposal for S -15,(X)0.00 in
funding had been submitted in Feb-
ruary to help carry on some of the
community work done by Women
Today in the past three years
through another project. Commu-
nity support for the proposal has
been good, coming from agencies
such as the Huron County Health
Unit and the Huron County Com-
munity Services Council.
The project will concentrate on
providing women with information
and educational opportunities con-
cerning health issues, presenting
the self-help group model as a
means of promoting their own
health as well as the health of oth-
ers. They will aiso provide women
with the opportunity to gain the
skills necessary to start self-help
groups by providing them with- fa-
cilitator training..

stress. Women Today has produced
a video on its work with facilitator
trainin • and self-help groups as
health promotion tools.
This will be used in public
speaking engagements with church
groups, women's clubs etc. as fur-
ther health promotion education.
Also planned arc workshop series
in the villages to include topics
such as self-esteem, body image,
communication skills and dealing
with conflict.
Finally, there will be facilitator
training sessions to teach women
how .to start up tell -help groups.
These activities, while focused on
women are not restricted to them
only. Although the programs will
not get underway until this fall,
anyone interested in more informa-
tion may contact the Women To-
