GRAND BEND - Rev. Desjardine
called the people to worship on
,Sunday morning at the Church of
God with the words of Psalm 27
"the Lord Is My Light and My Sal-
vation - Whom Shall I Fear'.)" The
hymns were led by George Wine -
garden. Michelle Vincent and Beth
Desjardine sang a duet "Jesus, Lord
To Me".
The pastor read the scripture from
Epheslatns 4:1-10, with his sermon
centering around the theme of
Christ's Ascension into !leaven. Je-
sus has now assumed a position of
authority and Ix)wer to minister the
church, and to act as our mediator
with God. Jesus will return to Earth
as he left, visibly and triumphantly.
The evening service was one of
praise through 'word and song.
Many of the congregation took part
by singing solos and ducts, playing
the piano, or reading inspirational
verses.
The ladies of the Church of God
enjoyed a special evening last
Thursday, when they had a pot -luck
supper followed by a presentation
by Mrs. Janna -Lynn Rutledge. She
told them about her interest and ex-
pertise in writing children's TV pro-
grams, and wcnt on to dramatize a
portion of the hook -by C.S. Lewis,
"The Lion, the Witch and the War-
drobe".
Shc sang• a solo "Via Dolorosa",
and "Love In Any Language" during
her beautiful presentation. Ms. Rut-
ledge has written a program for
children, to be produced this sum-
mer by CAN -Film.
Bible class
GRAND BEND - There were 18
ladies to attend . the community
Bible Study on Tuesday morning at
Saublc Court. Nita Sinclair wel-
comed everyone. Millie Desjardine
led the hymn sing, with Nancy
Turnbull playing the piano.
The lesson was taken from Chap-
ter 15, "David and His Psalms", on
"How Do God's Servants . Die?"
they studied 1 Chronicles 22 which
told how David "wasn't destined to
build the temple of the Lord in Jeru-
salem - he got all the materials
ready for his son, Solomon, to
build it.
In 1 Chronicles 28, David bid
farewell to all his family and
friends, and told all to acknowledge
God as their Father. David said that
God would give Israel peace while
the temple was being built.
In 1 Chronicles 29, David's prayer
says that everything comes from
God, and if you look to Ilim you
will have abiding peace and bless-
ing, strength and power. God re-
wards faithfulness and obedience.
Pat Desjardine was discussion
leader, and she closed with prayer, -
remembering the sick and shut-ins.
May 17 will be the last meeting for
the Bible Study group until Sep-
tember. .

CWL hear Interval House rep
By Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - The Inunacu-
late Heart of Mary Council of the
Catholic Women's League met last
Tuesday evening, with 20 members
in attendance. Guest speaker for the
evening was Gayle Montgomcry-
Miner, from the Women's Interval
House in Sarnia. This is a new,
two-year-old facility for abused
women and children, that receives
funding from Community and So-
cial Services, Ontario; from United
Way and from private clubs and in-
dividual donations. It provides a
"safe house" for mothers and chil-
dren in need, with over 20 beds and
cribs, near a hospital and police, for
up to six weeks, (longer; it need
bc).
Intcrval House staff provide shel-
ter, counseling and support, to ob-
tain government welfare; or a job, a
new. -apartment, and treatment for
the mother or children, if needed.
Lambton County Outreach Progratii
offers counseling for child abuse,
incest, or drug/alcohol abuse.
Over 3000 women have bccn as-
sisted since Interval House opened
. its doors, and the speaker gave
many disturbing details about abu-
sive practices she has come into
contact with in her work. She
stressed.that abusive practices like
incest and wife battering are the
man's problem - he is the one who
needs counseling and treatment, be-
cause the situation will not change
unless HE docs. The woman cannot
help, she can only leave, with her
children; for a safer environment.
Tnc saddest point brought out
was that the cycle is repeated in the
children.
President Rose Vanbruaene
thanked Ms. Montgomery -Miner,
with a donation from the CWL.
The business meeting opened_ with
a decade of the Rosary, for the•
month of May. In the.correspon-
dcnce, there was a thank -you from
Sister Mary Jean fro the donation to
