United Church Women
meet at Centralia

CENTRALIA - The May meeting
of Centralia U.C.W. was held May
5 in the church with the program
committee June Esscry, Florence
Hodgins, Donna Smith and Faye
Skinner in charge. The guests were
from Thames Road, Elimvilte and
Zion U.C.W. and local friends.
Gladys Buswell welcomed every-
one. She introduced the Junior
Choir. Faye Skinner thanked Judy
Mills and Cathy Skinner, leaders of
the Junior Choir for their lovely
music in song.
Faye Skinner read the Scripture
"The 'Widows Offering" and intro-
duced the skit "the parable of Tips
and Tithes". Donna Smith, Audrey
McFalls.an¢_Faye took part. lt.:was
narrated by June Esscry: June read a
poem "On Giving". A hymn was
sung "For The Beauty of the
Earth". Donna Smith led in prayer.
June Esscry introduced the speak-
ers Mr. and Mrs.'Peter Fraync who
told about their work in Senegal.
They gave an interesting slide pres-
entation. Donna Smith thanked
than.
Rev. Carter led in prayer. The
closing hymn "I Need Thee Every
Flour" was sung. Ushers were Lois
Wilson and Aldeen Skinner.
Greeters were presidents Lois
Wilson and Gladys Buswell. Guest
registrations were Adeline Elliot
and Etta Powe and- pianist Gicna

Sacrament of Baptism was ob-
served. Those baptized were: Chan-
dra Jean, daughter of Bob and Pearl
Dougall (nee Buswell), Nathan
Adam, son of Paul and Karen Dou-
gherty (nec Snell), and Mikayla
Anne Lawren, daughter of Larry 2nd
Faye Skinner (nee Blair).
A presentation of Religion In
Life awards were presented to
Shawn McCurdy and Bryan McAl-
lister.
Rev. Carter chose as her topic
"The Longing of the Heart". The
Junior Choir sang an anthem.

at Zurich for 6:30. Car pooling to
be arranged.
London Conference from Thurs-
day to Sunday will be meeting at
Wesley -Knox United Church in
London. Margaret Cook and Rev.
Carter will attend from Centralia.
Euchre
Prize winners at the euchre held
in the Community Centre were:
High score Iva Blair, Alfred Math-
ers; Lone Hands Marjorie Steepu,
Harry Noels; Low score Dorothy
Bullock, Eva McLean (playing a
man's card). Special score prizes
went to Jean Noels and Otto Dar-
ling.
The evening wouldn't be com-
plete without a couple of skunks
prizes which went to Dorothy Bul-
lock and Allen Pfaff.
Next euchre on May 16 will be
convened by Cleve and Iclene Pull-
man and OttoandDorothy Darling.
SunCay being Mothers Day the
weather was almost perfect when
many took to the road to travel to
various points. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Mills had breakfast out with their
family and then joined the Shunpik-
ers Tour on their motorcycle.
Mr. and Mrs. Brent Caslick and
boys visited with their parents in
the Cargill area.
Mothers day visitors with Mrs.
Von Overholt were son Glen of Zu=
rich and daughters Elaine and Tom
Hayter, Dashwood and Pauline and
Brad Tait, St. Thomas. By the
crowd at Heywoods restaurant on
Sunday many took mother out to
dinner.
Tom and I wcrc Friday evening
visitors with our son Clayton,
Alice and family of Huron Park
where we gathered to celebrate
Clayton's birthday and Mothers
Day. Bonnie Kooy treated tl::, fami-
ly and friends to dinner at "the
Barn" in London, Sunday.

Communion service at St. Patrick's

SAINTSBURY - Holy Commun-
ion service was held at 11 a.m. at
St. Patricks. Rev. B. Wheeler was
in charge. Lisa and Julie Carroll
read the lessons and Mary Davis
provided music for the hymns. The
flowers were in loving memory of
the late Vera McFalls placed there
by her family. -
Rev. Wheeler spoke to the chil-
dren on "Mothers Love" and took -
her text for the sermon from the
Acts of the Apostles 10-46 "For
They heard them speaking in
Tongues and extolling God".
She also read a letter form the
bishop to the Sunday School prais-
ing them for the Muffin Sale"
they served two weeks ago. The
children made book marks for their
mothers, grandmothers and friends
and handed them out when they
came up into the church for the
blessing.
Service next Sunday is planned
for 4 p.m. at St. Paul's, Kirkton
for the induction service.
Tuesday evening the A.C.W.
members are invited to Rose Cun-
ningham's home for the May meet-
ing.
There were several family tzather-
ings for Mcthers Day. M. and
Mrs. Bob MacGillivray and chil-.
dren and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Da-
vis and children with Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Davis.
Mrs. Voyle Jordan spent the day
with her relatives Mr. and Mrs.
Keith Gamble and family, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tindall,
Exeter and Mrs. Mary Davis were
entertained to dinner following
church servi:•e, at Heywoods Re-
staurant by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tin-
dall, Marylou and Robert.

Sound called on Mrs. Voyle Jordan
recently.
Golden Agers visit
ZURICH - On Wednesday after-
noon May 4 the Zurich Golden
Agers were entertained by the
Grand Bend Seniors in the Angli-
can Parish Hall, A scenic film of
Winter and Spring was shown of
the Pinery and Grand Bend. Nola
Love pianist and Carl Niebergall
on the banjo treated everyone to
old time to tapping music. A deli-
cious lunch was served by the la-
dies.
Mrs. Earl Greenlee, Mrs. Jim London, Friday evening. The wed -
Barker, Mrs. Bob Tindall and Mary ding is planned for Saturday May

Miss Donna Joe Garrett at the Rodger MacGillivray, Vancouver,
home of her grandmother Mrs. W. spent several days with his brother
