Hay approves
culvert repair
ZURICH - Hay council accepted
recommendations for repair of a cul-
vert on the East Branch of the Black
Creek Drain at their first regular
meeting for May.
Haskett-Hodgins engineering rec-
ommended that the erosion -da naged
culverts on the Edison Forrest prop-
erty be removed for repair of the
drain for 30 metres on either side.
The culverts will be replaced, back-
filled with clay, and stone riprap-
ping will be installed over filter
fabric. However, the engineers
specify that clay will have to be
brought to the site by truck because
material in the arca is not suitable
for maintaining the drain. The
work will be carried out by C.E.
Reid and Co.
Hay township is willing to enter
negotiations with the ministry of
municipal affairs and the Town of
Exctcr to determine the fate of the
proposed Huron Farms Agricultural
Park just northwest of Exctcr.
Hay's plans to develop the agri-
industrial park was appealed by Ex-
cter on grounds that sufficient lands
exist within the town for such de-
velopment. An OMB hearing to
discuss the matter has been post-
poned to July because Exeter's law-
yer was unavailable.
A request from Stephen township
for support of their concern over the
large increase in a general levy from
the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation,
Authority met with approval from
Hay council. Reeve Lionel Wilder
will voice these concerns at the
next meeting of the board of direc-
tors for the Authority.
Stephen Township's 1988 levy
will be S26,061, an 18 percent in-
crease from 522,044 pad in 1987.
A petition and vcrif.cation of
casement status from residents of
the Greystone subdivision for the
installation of a water system met
r
1
with council's approval. Burns
Ross consulting engineers will be
asked to prepare a report for a distri-
bution system for the subdivision
from the Highway 21 water line.
