Letter from Minor Hockey
Dear Parents of Exeter Minor Hockey
Judging from the turnout of parents and interested parties for the
annual general meeting, held at the Rec Centre on Wednesday even-
ing, Exeter Minor Hockey has just completed a problem free season.
It is difficult to understand why concerns expressed throughout the
season are no longer the burning issues they once appeared when the
time comes to discuss them'with the general membership.
Only thirty members including the executive were on hand as the
books were closed on another season. The apparent lack of interest of
parents in the activities of their association is cause for concern.
Financially our association lost $4406.57 this season.
The major expense is our ice costs which increased from $31,420
to S36,087 representing a cost of $175.00 per player. Our insurance
cost an average of $8.00 per player, a 100 percent increase over last
season.
In the 1986-87 season, the average revenue per player arising from
registration and municipal grants was S157.00. This season despite
another increase in fees the average revenue per player dropped to
S134,00. The decrease was due to the lack of grants and the imple-
mentation of our family plan.
At this time,Exeter town council is considering our request for
subsidy. As indicated at the time of registration in the fall any sub-
sidy received from municipalities will be passed on directly to resi-
dents of that municipality by way of redirections to 1988-89 fees.
Usbornc township has forwarded a grant of $21.00 for their
players.
Fundraising continues to be a very frustrating experience for the
executive. The skateathon, which is the only activity players were
asked to participate in raised $1,000 although less then twenty per-
cent of our players took part.
We as an association would like to express our gratitude to all
coaches, managers and trainers for their time and efforts in making
our 1987-88 an unqualified success.
My own personal thanks go to the members of the executive par-
ticularly those whose commitment ends this year.
As we look ahead to the 1988-89 season we welcome the members
of the new executive. We arc confident that you will achieve a great
deal of personal satisfaction from your involvement and we ask, on
your behalf, all members to assist you in whatever way they can to
continue to make E.M.H.A. a viable and dynamic presence in our
community.
It is only with the interest and participation of all our members
that we can provide oor program to everyone who wishes to play mi-
nor hockey and keep our sport within reach of those who need it
most.
Working with you to serve our community and our youth we re-
main,
Sincerely

Planting
May is planting month and I
found this piece in my scrapbook.
"As We Sow"
Even now it is time to plant our
seeds in the sweet-smelling good
earth, believing as we sow, so
shall we reap.
First we must plant five rows of
"peas"
Preparedness, promptness, per-
severance, politeness and prayer.
Next we will plant three rows of
"squash"
Squash gossip, squash criticism
and squash indillercncc.
Then we shall plant four rows of
"lettuce"
Let us be faithful, let us be loyal,
let us be true, let us love one an-
other.
No garden is complete without
turnips - so let us turn„up with a
smile, turn up for church, turn up
with a new idea, and turn up with
real determination to do some good
and make the world a better place to
live in.
