The students were finalists at their own author's days and came to Exeter to decide who will represent South Huron at the author's day finals in Clinton on Maya. $500 getsHockey HOCKEY DONATION - The Hensall Legion donated $500 towards Hensall Minor Hockey last Wednesday. Le- gion president Dave Smale (left) presents hockey president Peter Groot with the cheque with Legion secretary - treasurer Bea Uyl present. The money will go to help the organization which suffered an operating loss of more than $5,000 last season. Queensway UVews HENSALL - Monday residents and friends gathered in the Activity Room for a welcoming tea in hon- our of Janet McKinnon who has made Queensway her home. Exercise was the name of the game at Fun and Fitness, Tuesday morning: In the afternoon Rev. Sinasac led our worship service. Thank you to Rev. Sinasac and also Phillippa Steckle our volun- teer pianist. Wednesday afternoon residents bowled in Zurich. We really appre- ciate Iva Reid our volunteer driver and able assistant. This week Lloyd McDougall was our men's high bowler and Muriel Gunning was la- dies high.. Joyce Pepper joined us Thursday after lunch as our volunteer pianist at choir practice. We were very pleased Friday afternoon to wel- come Carol and Cyril Gingerich be- cause Ethiopia was our featured country for International Day and they gave a very interesting presen- tation about their work and life in Ethiopia. They have served there for the past few years. Saturday afternoon approximately 20 children from the Exeter Pente- costal Church under the direction of Barb Triebner performed parts of their Eastor Musical, "To See A Miracle". Everyone enjoyed the program and we hope to see these very talented youngsters again. A general meeting of Hensall Minor Hockey Association will be tonight, Wednesday, at the arena. The main topic of discussion will be fund raising. One of the goals is to hold a yard sale as part of the community ef- fort later this month. If anyone has good quality toys, children's cloth- ing, books, large or small appli- ances or furniture that they could donate .to Minor Hockey's sales, please call Susan Campbell, Joan Weiss, Susan Hartman, Val Kyle or Bob Seaton or drop it off at 64 King St. Any un -sold articles will be donated to a local charity. Scouts clean-up The local Scouts, Cubs and Bea- vers are holding another clean-up of the village of Hensall on Satur- day at 10 a.m. Please call Marg Clarke for more information or if you need the services of the boys. Nursery school Hensall and District Nursery School has had a very busy month 'of April and May looks to be even busier. Many thanks to all of those who worked so hard to make the Fred Penner concert the success that it was. A very special thanks to all of the children whose smiling faces made it all worthwhile. One of the exciting things planned for May is a train trip from St. Marys to London on the last day of school. Also, there will be a trip to a veterinarian's clinic, a party for parents and grandparents and a trip to South Huron District High School Band to hear and discover for themselves real musical instru- __ merits. . Library The next story -hour at Hensall Library will be next Monday at 11 a.m. The theme will be "Things we eat". The library has just completed another quarterly exchange so drop in to see what's new or just to browse. The library is located in the Town Hall at 108 King Street. United Church The Junior Choir at Hensall Unit- ed Church on Sunday performed a lovely rendition of "In My Heart There Rings A Melody . Rev. Douglas Wright then told the chil- dren a story about keeping our world as lovely as God made it. Rev. Wright's sermon to the con - gregation dealt with "Another side to stewardship." Greetingworshippers at the door was Grant St. John, a member of the official board. Ushers were Har- old Parsons, Jeff Corbett, Jim Par- sons and Ian McAllister. Good used clothing is required for the next clothing bale to go to Mis- sion's Services in London. You - may leave any donations in the en- tryway to the .downstairs ladics washroom. The bale will be packed on the morning of May 16. This years Vacation Bible School will run •from June 27 - July 1. Leaders are still needed if the week- • long school is to be a success. Wright is away at the meeting of the London Conference on May 15, the guest preacher will be Steve Pitt, a United Church the- ology student from Emmanuel Col- lege. . There will be a meeting of the U.C.W. this Thursday at 2:30. Shuffleboard The Happy Pushers were out in force last Tuesday. A surprise birth- day party was held following the shuffling for John Pepper. John was presented with a trophy to thank him for all of his good deeds with the shuffleboard club. - Twenty-eight members were present to help celebrate including his wife Pearl. Ladies' slow - pitch meeting EXETER - The South Huron La- dies Slow -Pitch League held a meeting April 28 to distribute the schedules, discuss the rules and in- troduce any new teams. The only new team is the "Nuturals" who wcr. formerly the "Beaters". The 1988 executive is as follows: President Marj Green, Vice Presi- dent Sheila Penhale, Secretary He- len Kadey, Treasurer Dolly Crcces, Statistician Anne Marie Maloney. The season will begin May -12 anti run until July 28 in which time the play offs will hegin.
