South Huron soccer season opens
By Sheila Dougall
This week was the beginning of
the Girls Soccer team's regular sea-
son. In their first game, South Hu-
ron were defeated by .Stratford Cen-
tral 1-0, but in their second game
South Huron defeated Stratford.
Northwestern 3-2.
Scoring for South Huron were
Cindy Moore, Sherry Kerslake and
Liana Rosie.
The South Huron Senior Soccer
Panthers began their 1988 season
undefeated after two games.
Wednesday South Huron trav-
elled to Goderich to face the Vi-
kings.
Panthers put up with . sloppy
conditions, playing in weather un-
fit even for soccer games.
After falling behind early when
Goderich bounced a shot in off a
defenders leg, Panthers put it to-
gether late in the game to tie the
game 1-1.
Good ball control and fine feeds
to the •strikers were the keys to
Panthers' come -back.
Khampagnc Chansamonc scored
South Huron's goal. and some ex-
:.ellent hustle by Scott Fields on
defence prevented a second Goderich
tally. -
Friday, Panthers hosted Stratford
Northwestern on a much nicer day,
perfectly suited for soccer. Stratford
got one early, but a steady stream
of good shots by Panthers indicated
that it was only a matter of time
until the game turned their way.
Again, good hall control and
steady defense led to good set-ups.
Jim Dickens picked up a shot that
hit the crossbar and made sure it
bulged the net for the first Panther
goal.
A few minutes later, Fred Gregus
scored the first soccer goal of his
life on a very surprised Stratford de-
fense.
