PRECIOUS BLOOD.- Winners of the Grade 5 and 6 junior division of Precious Blood's science fair were Ro- chelle Geoffrey (front lett), Carli Tieman, Sean McCann, Scott Inson, Darryl Hartman (back left), Darren Kints, Shawn Jacob, Kevin Coolman and Julie Korieina. —7f: hiero Clean up highlights high school recognition If you looked out onto the streets of Exeter Thursday morning and no- ticed all those little swirls of gar- bage had disappeared, you have the students of South Iluron District High School to thank. . -Sixty students, divided up into groups of five and six, picked up 1,446 pounds of garbage in a single hour Wednesday morning when they blitzed the town in one of the many planned activities for Fduca- t►Vw1E - "We just wanted to choose some sort of activity to say thank you to the community for all they have to put up with throughout the year," organizer Donna Garvey said, ad- ding that students contribute to a good portion of the refuse. - Exetcr was divided up into a grid. system and each group was assigned a section to clean. The group which collected the most garbage in the alloted time was promised a free pizza lunch, but organizers were so pleased a itt► the reSponsc to the sweep, they have since decided to provide the free lunch to all who tcx)k part. Ac- cording to quick calculations by SHDIIS principal Bruce Shaw, the pizza to be consumed may weigh as nructr as the garbage collected. Patrick Ducharmc, Craig Miller, lan Verbeek, Rich Gingerich and Jeff O'Brien made up the winning squad. Covering area in the cast cor- ner of Highways 4 and 83, they brought 1-I bags of garbage weigh- ing 245 pounds back to the school. The second place team was only four pounds short of the winning haul In addition to the pizza, the win- ning group ill receive special pins as a lasting memento. Education week at high school .Education Week was celebrated with 16 special events offered at South Huron District high • School. 'l'otal attendance at the work- shop and open house presenta- tions held during the week of April 18 numbered more than 5(10. Approximately 300 people attended the special Spring Con- cert sponsored by Bob Robilliard and Susan Graham of the S.11.D.11.S, Music Department. The workshops covered a wide variety of topics ranging from' environmental concerns to job entry skills and experiences in the Arts. Workshop leaders in- cluded arca professionals, Canada Employment Centre staff and S.II.D.H.S. staff. Education Wcck organizers Charles Mountford and Richard Graham expressed great satisfac- tion in the high participation i the many events and in the ex- cellent quality of the workshops; displays and presentations.
