News from Exeter Villa
Hello, from the residents of the
Villa. It's hard to believe that April
is almost over. The spring months
are surely slipping by.
We would like to welcome Mrs.
Helen Stock to the -Lodge. Helen
moves from Kitchener, being origi-
nally from New Hamburg. Birthday
wishes go to Solomon Donin and
staff members Glenda Desjardine
and Jan Ryan. -
Jack Johnston was pleasantly sur-
prised by a party on Tuesday to cel-
ebrate his 90th birthday. Family
and friends joined to wish him the
very best.
Rev. Duke Vipperman of Trivitt
Anglican Church in Exeter conduct-
ed our weekly worship services.
Lodge resident council also met this
week. High on the agenda was our
current construction. Plans are be-
ing- finalized for our official ground
brc::ing ceremony on April 30.
Construction is already moving at a
rapid rate.
The aroma of good things seem
to continue all -week as we sampled
some of our creations. Thursday af-
-ternoon nursing home residents
were pleased with their efforts at
Chocolate Chip Brownies. The best
part was of course the samples.
The men seem to enjoy these af-
ternoons just as much and maybe
more than the ladies. Lodge resi-
dents found that they had a flair for
the Italian. Thursday evening we
enjoyed creating our own mini -
pizzas.
Special thanks this week to the
group of volunteer teachers and stu-
dents from SIIDHS. These diligc::t
workers did a great job in picking
up the debris on our lawn.
Although we don't mention all of
our activities, some do highlight
Libraries plan future
The future needs of Ontario pub-
lic libraries will be addressed in a
new strategic plan, Minister of Cul-
ture and Communications Lily Od-
die Munro announced ttxiay.
The 18 month-- -long strategic
planning process will involve im-
portant issues including: the impact
of changing technologies, the rcve-
lance of library resources and servic-
es to the future population and li-
brarian training. The plan will be
discussed at a public library con-
gress to be held in the fall of 1989.
"The strategic plan is sponsored
by nay Nlinistry in conjunction
with the Ontario Library Associa-
tion," Oddie Munro said. "It is my

hope that every public library board
and library system will participate
in this major initiative.."
"Public libraries contribute in a
very real way to this government's
objectives of excellence in educa-
tion, literacy training and techno-
logical advancement," Oddie Munro
said. "With the help of a strategic
plan, public libraries will be better
prepared to meet the public's future
needs."
The strategic plan is part of a
planning process which began with
the "Libraries 2(X)0" conference held
in 1985. This international forum
took the first step toward an exami-
nation of future trends in public li-
brary and information services.
our week regularly. A few of our fa-
vourites are sing songs, bingo and
even exercises. One of our current
projects is germinating seeds for
our flower beds.
Thought for the week: Laughter
is a tranquilizer with no side ef-
fects.
Special birthday wishes to Nancy
Holland.
