Figure skaters receive season awards
An awards night and pot -luck
supper was held at the Comunity
Centre last Tuesday evening for
members of the Zurich and arca fig-
ure skating club along with their
parents and families.
Afterwards several trophies were
presented and all enjoyed hearing an
interesting talk by Cathy Merner -
shc is looking forward to joining a
three week ice-skating show in Au-
gust and travelling to Australia,
New Zealand and Hawaii:
The officers for next year's club'_
were approved, with Lois Jones as
President for 88-89 and Karrie Fqt
rester as First Vice-president. •
ZAS meeting
There will be a Zurich Agricultu-
ral Society meeting on Tuesday
April 26 at the Township Hall at
8:30 p.m. R3veryoric is welcome as
they are looking for lots ofvommu-
nity participation this year.
Gone to France
Hubert Jacobs, son of John and
Mary Jacobs, RR 1 Zurich, is one
of the 150 exchange students who
left at the end of March to spend the
next three months in France.
All the students will be together
for three days once they arrive in
France for orientation.
Hubert will be staying at the
home of David Perron and his fami-
ly in Nantes, France until he re-
turns July 7. He will attend high-
school and use his French as well.
Thc, exchange students will also
have a chance to do some sight see-
ing for a week.
High school
The South Huron District High
School music department is
presenting a musical program at the
school on Tuesday, April 26 at
7:30 p.m. tided "A Spring Celebra-
tion". Advance tickets arc $2 from
the music students, or $3 at the
door.
Personals
Pastor Clayton Kucpfcr and his
wife Amy hosted last Monday April
11 a potluck supper and get-
ytogether at their home for those
who had been on the bus trip to
Florida this past wintcr.
Ladies' Auxiliary
The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Blue
Water Rest Home held their last
meeting on April 5.
The quilt that will be won at the
Bean Festival on August 27 is now
on display at the Home and tickets
are available from convener Cecelia
.Farwell.

A Region 3 Auxiliary meeting
will be held on April 21 at the
Spruce Villa in Stratford at 9:30
a.m. And the annual meeting for
the Ontario Association of Homes
for the Aged will be on May 19 in
Kitchener at the Sunnyside Nursing
Home at 9:30 a.m. If any members
are interested in going, phone
Mary -Lou Erb.
The annual convention will be
held September 14-16 at the Har-
bour Castle Hotel, Toronto.
Final plans have been made for
the Mothers Day weekend Tea on
Saturday May 7. It will include a
Bake Sale, plant table and a display
of quilts and home-made articles.

Howard (Mac) and Virginia Klopp
celebrated their 50th wedding anni-
versary on Saturday April 16 with
friends and relatives attending an
open house at the Zurich Commu-
nity Centre from 7-9 p.m. which
was followed by a dance.
On March 30 the Klopps attended
an Awards night in Hamilton at the
Convention hall and Mac was given
- an award for being with Texaco for
50 years.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery
are extended to Brent Morrison (son
of Paul and Judy) who is a patient
in Westminster Children's Hospital,
London due to a car accident on
Wednesday.
Congratulations to Aimee Geli-
nas who placed first in the Kiwanis
Music Festival last Tuesday even-
ing April 12 in London at the
Msgr. Feeney educational centre.
Aimee was among several other pi-
ano students of Laurie Erb.

the Library for the older children on
Saturday April 30 from 10:30 -

Zurich council briefs
Four new homes' arc being built
on Parksidc this year.

Thc Huron County Board of Edu-
cation is installing a light at the
west side of the Zurich Public
School that Councillor Herb Turk-
heim promises "should light up the
whole town". Thc Zurich PUC
will install a light on the pole be-
tween the Catholic Church and St.
Boniface School.

Thc new call-up system for the
Zurich and arca fire department is
now in operation.
A bylaw was passed appointing
Allen Brokenshrrc as deputy fire
chief. Another bylaw designates
the fire chief as assistant building
inspector.

Twp or three members of council
will attend the seminar on free trade
hosted by the Zurich Chamber of
Commerce to be held in the Do-
minion Hotel on April 19,. Invita-
tions have gone out to people in
Exeter, Grand Bend, Bayfield and
other nearby municipalities.

A court of revision was called to
write off a total of S61.57 in taxes
on a business that is now closed,
and to mill rate changed from com-
mercial to residcntiat

Zurich Golden Agers met Monday
evening April 11 with 32 in atten-
dance including four visitors.
Jean Young, Executive Director
of the Town and Country Home
Makers, showed slides of their work
with the elderly and also introduced
two home -makers from Zurich,
Margaret Deichcrt and Donna Wat-
son.
Happy Birthday was sung for
Emma Schilbc and Lyda Gandier.
Luella Willcrt won the door prize.
Flo Murray and her April Group
served a delicious lunch.
A number of Zurich Golden Ag-
ers attended the Zone 8 Spring Ral-
ly at the Stanley Township Com-
plex on Wednesday April 13.

Huron Centennial spring concert today

Friday night at 7:30 -p.m.

Jamboree
Stanley Township's Annual Fid-
dler's Jamboree was held Sunday
April 17 at 10 a.m. and was a huge
success with a full house. There
were approximately 50 musicians
in attendance coming from Union-
dale, Stratford, Sarnia, Dungannon,
Clinton, Blyth, Exeter, Holmes
ville, Zurich, Goderich, Harriston
and surrounding areas.
Approximately 15 pupils from
Sharon Preszcator's dancing school
in Holmcsville were also there. Ap-
proximately 200 meals were served
in all.
Thc Jamboree is sponsored by the
Rec Committee and convened by
Jean Armstrong and Mrytle Taylor.
Stan -Lee Seniors
The Stan -Lee Seniors of Varna
hosted the Zone 8 spring rally at
the Complex on April 13 at- 10
a.m.
The group was welcomed by
Clarence Rau, Reeve of Stanley
Township. There were approximate-
ly 150 in attendance.
Guest speaker was Mrs. Joyce
King, president of the U.S.C.O. in
Toronto. She spoke on the benefits
all seniors have received through
the efforts of the U.S.C.O. and of
the benefits which arc still before
parliament.
