From the moment you purchase
an automobile, it depreciates in
value. Whether it be new or used,
you can help counteract that depre-
ciation by learning how to protect
and enhance your car's overall ap-
pearance.
The key to keeping your car
looking its best and maintaining
its market value is to take proper
care of it.
Keep automobile clean
Before bathing your car with
suds and cool water, hose off loose
dirt. Then, use a sponge or soft
cloth to clean with a bucket diluta-
ble cleaner.
Wash and rinse one section at a
time, starting at the roof and work-
ing down to the fenders and tires.
After thoroughly rinsing the car,
wipe it dry using a chamois or soft
cloth, like cotton terry or old mus-
lin.
Be certain cloths are free from
buttons, fasteners or other items
that could scratch the finish.
Remove stubborn road grime and
oxidation. Use a specially formu-
lated cleanser, to remove lightly
oxidized paint, road tar and old car
polish, and to provide protection
for the finish.
Let it shine
A little elbow grease and the
right auto wax provides maximum
shine and the wax helps protect
cars against oxidation. Cars should
be .waxed three or more times a
year for maximum protection.
Frequency varies with the condi-
tion of the finish; the paint color
and type, the car's exposure to se-
vere extremes of hot/cold tempera-
tures, and the polish that is used.
Choose a wax that suits the age
and condition of the car's finish and
the type of application preferred.
Like most automotive polishes,
it removes road film and oxidized
paint.
Whichever product you choose,
first read manufacturer's directions,
then proceed with the following
steps:
* Apply product in either sun or
shade to a clean, dry car;

The finishing touches
Even if your car has a minimum
amount of chrome, do not avoid
caring tor its appearance. In fact,
chrome often needs extra care to pre-
vent it from rust and to rid it . of
grime, stains and tar.
To preserve the "new" look of
non -chrome bumpers, rubber trim
and tires, maintain them with a no -
buff polish.
Regular care of chrome, bumpers,
tire and trim will contribute to the
continuing value and good looks of
your automobile.
• Get inside
The inside of your car can some-
times require as much care as the
outside, depending, of course, on
Inc type of use and abuse it gets.
Fabric upholstery will retain a
lush appearance longer 'f spots and
spills are attended ►romptly.
Brush or vacuum a • oose grit
and dirt, then apply a clt,,ner and
scrub - using a soft bristled brush.
Use a clean, damp cloth to re-
move loosened dirt and stains and
allow fabric to dry.
Finally, you and your car'dcservc
a treat. Freshen the air with a con-
trollable air freshener device that at-
taches to your car's heating/cooling
vent.
You can be sure that the next
time you set foot into your car, you
will be welcomed by a fresh and.
lightly scented fragrance.
Now you can drive away, confi-
dent that your investment of time in
proper car care has paid off.. in your
car's appearance and in its value.
Change filters
Y ou•re on your long-awaited va-
cation trip and you find yourself
stranded in unfamiliar territory be-
cause of a dirty fuel filter.
Be sure your car's fluids and fil-
ters have been changed before start-
ing your summer travel. It's one
less thing to worry about.
