vehicles backing up
Accidents investigated this week
by officers of the Exeter town po-
lice department involved vehicles
backing up.
Tuesday, April 12 on the parking
lot of Iluron Collision at 186
Rosemount Avenue, a vehicle op-
crated by Margaret Moody, Exeter
was reversing when it struck a
parked vehicle owned by Wiilliam
Be liners, Ildcron.
The next day, a vehicle driven by
Paul Waddell, Exeter had reversed
from a driveway on Carling street,
south of Victoria and was proceed-
ing to move southbound on Carling
when it was struck by a reversing
.vehicle driven by Mary Morley,
Ailsa Craig.
Thursday, a vehicle driven by
Gayle Cronyn, Lucan was making a
right tum from the municipal park-
ing lot on Sanders street when it
struck a parked vehicle owned by
Barry Tieman, Exeter.
Exeter Council briefs
Works superintendent Glenn
Kclls quickly sheared a suggestion
by councillor Dorothy Chapman
that would could cut the cost of
grass cutting in the area of the
town lagoons.
When Chapman suggested
sheep be allowed to graze on the
lagoon properties, Kclls replied, "
We tried that a few years ago and it
cost us S10,000 to clean out the
ponds of erosion caused by the ani-
mals".

On th'c suggestion of councillor
Ben Hoogenboom, a letter will be
sent to the office of town planner
Jean Monteith voicing council's
concern over the Iatc arrival of a
planner at a recent planning adviso-
ry board meeting.

1toogenboom suggested the Ex-
ctcr Mohawks and junior Hawks be
recognized in a fitting matter for
- "putting Exeter on the map" during
the current hockey season.

. Upset over the current issue of
Sunday shopping, councillor Mor-
ley Hall said, " The present Onta-
rio government is committing sui-
cide on this issue. It must be
settled soon."

Several members of council
commended South Huron District
High School students for their ef-
forts in cleaning up the town this
week. Deputy reeve Lossy Fuller
added, " If they need a truck, let's
give them one."

Clerk treasurer Liz Bell was giv-
en the authority to shop around for
the best prices on a new photo cop-
ying machine.

A letter will be sent to Solicitor
General Joan Smith asking for pro-
vincial grants to pay for radar guns
used by the local police department
as all Highway Traffic Act fines go
to the provincial coffers.

Council has declared the week of
May 8 to 14 as Nurses Weck.

Exeter will be represented at the
350th birthday party of Exeter, New
Hampshire in early June of this year
by councillor Dorothy Chapman
and her husband Jim. They will take
along a plaque to present to their
American counterpart and other pro-
motional material. A tour for any-
one interested has been organized by
Ellison Travel and Tours.
Support Stephen letter
Exeter council Monday night
supported a rcccnt letter sent by
Stephen township to the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority.
The Stephen letter sent to all
municipalities in the Authority
objected to an increase of 18 per-
cent in the 1988 Authority levy
over thc previous year. The in-
crease for some municipalities was
as high as 39 percent with the
overall average being up 20 per-
cent.
It continued, " Our concern as a
municipality, is that this increase
is significantly larger than we
would like to sec as a total budget
increase. Therefore to keep our to-

Four accidents
Officers of thc Exeter Ontario
Provincial Police detachment inves-
tigated four accidents this week.
The first occurred Sunday, April
10 on Highway 83. The two drivers
were Irvin 1-leimple, Stratford and
Joey Davidson, Mitchell.
_ Tuesday, April 12 at 3:45 p.m.
south of Exeter. on Highway 4,
three vehicles were involved in a
collision. Drivers were Evelyn
Fletcher, Daniel Rooth, and Wayne
Clipperton, all of Exeter. The Exet-
er fire department was called out as
a precaution against fire.
On Highway 84, Wednesday, a
vehicle driven by Scott Regier, RR
2 Zurich, struck a pedestrian, Brent
Morrison, Zurich, age five years.
Morrison was taken to South Hu-
ron Hospital. -
The final accident occurred Thurs-
day at 2:05 a.m. on Huron Road
21, when a vehicle driven by Patri-
cia Carter, RR 1 Woodham, failed
to negotiate a curve and went into
the ditch.
During the past week members of
the Exctcr OPP laid - 25 LLA
charges, four driving suspension of
12 hours, 57 IITA charges, three
Criminal Code charges and one
NCA charge.
OPP wish to remind drinking
drivers that the RIDE program is in
effect and will be strictly enforced
throughout the roads and highway
of Huron County.

tion had 75 foot frontage. He added,
"It was originally 65 feet, but 10
feet of lost land has been added." It
will be semi-detached as side-by-
side, not a duplex with up and down
dwellings." •
After this considerable discussion,
council approved a change to R -2-I
and McLean said his client would
have no problcmn with this deci-
sion.
