Mary Chessell, Marjorie Stirling and Marilyn Kalbflcisch led in wor- ship and study. "Worship in the midst of struggle" was based on the story of Jacob's struggle with the angel at Pcnicl and his insistence on a blessing. The topic was "the changing roles of women", beginning with "The Capable Wife" in Proverbs who was a hard workcr and a good busi- ness woman and highly respected. According to farm newspapers from pre -1900, many farmers expected their wives to work long, hard hours but showed no more consider- ation for them than fortheir live- stock. The first farm women's or- ganization was the Women's Institute, formed in 1910. Thcrc was a review of present farm women's organizations, their goals and their problems. The situa- tion for rural women in Africa was touched on, and the involvement of Canadian church women in lobby- ing for better housing for the poor was also mentioned. Thcrc was dis- cussion on the changes in the lives of rural women now, with many of them working off the farm, their need for child care, their expecta- tions of living standards. . Marilyn gave the summary, ex- pressing the opinion that women in the future will have to co-operate better as more of them are in the workplace, having equal respect for those who work outside the home and those who choose to stay home and care for their children. We must keep in mind that each individual is important in God's plan for our lives.
