Sh�wthIs weekend Spring cleanup time to find your papers Have you ever spent unneces- sary hours searching for an un- paid bill? Or have you hunted endlessly for receipts to justify expense claims on a tax return or expense voucher? If your system for storing pa- perwork is either nonexistent or in disarray, spring cleanup sea- son is a good time to get records in order. You may want to reserve one arca of the home to work on bills, chcckbock 'balancing, cor- respondence and other tasks. However, if space is at a premi- um, or if other household mem- bers arc encroaching on your space or running away with your supplies, you may want to try another solution. If you write a large number of checks each month, you may want to keep them in a separate file. Some people prefer to store bills and receipts by the month, with one folder for each period Others, who may itemize ex- penses for business or tax pur- poses, prefer to store records by category - that is, car expenses in one folder, household repairs in another, medical bills in yet an- other. However, unless you itemize your expenses for business or taxes, the one feldcr per month strategy should work well. You'll find keeping bills and other paperwork organized makes record keeping much easier. Tax preparation will also become a less harried experience. Though the forms and rules may change almost yearly, you'll feel more confident when you can put your hands on all the needed paper- work at one time.
