Optimist Home & Garden Show this weekend
.
Is it getting older?
Look around your kitchen. Is
it showing signs of age?
Maybe you're satisfied with
its size and layout but not its
looks. Functionally, it may be
fine - but aesthetically it's over
the hill.
If that's the case, there are
remedies that won't cost you
nearly what a full-scale remodel-
ing would. With paint and do-it-
yourself products, you can create
a fresh new look for your kitch-
en and avoid major expense<
Here's how one couple pulled
off a facelift. First, they painted
their old dark wood cabinets a
light clay color and replaced the
heavy brass hardware with white
porcelain knobs. Next, they
painted the walls and range hood
a soft Wedgwood blue.
Then they put down inexpen-
sive sheet flooring in a red brick
pattern. The flooring is 12 feet
wide, so there aren't any seams.
They merely cut the flooring to
room size with the aid of a pa-
per pattern and cemented it
down. An added bonus: The new
flooring happens to be "no -
wax".
To cap the project, they in-
stalled an acoustical suspended
ceiling. The two foot by four
foot acoustical panels aro scored
to give the appearance of small
individual tiles. They picked an
acousttFal suspended ceiling be-
cause,. unlike plaster or drywall,
it's uniquely suited to kitchen
use. Besides absorbing noise,
it's washable and fire retardant,
and you can attach recessed fluo-
rescent lighting fixtures to its
metal supporting grid.
And it's easier to install than
you might think. First you
hang wires from the old ceiling.
Then you attach light -weight
aluminum supports to the wires
to form the grid. Finally, you
rest the 2 by 4 panels in the
grid.
If you ever need to get to the
overhead space, you merely lift
the panels out. You can also lift
them out for cleaning, if need
be.
If you've ever wearied your
arms washing or scrubbing an
ordinary ceiling while perched
precariously on a ladder, you
know what a convenience re-
movable panels are.
One manufacturer guarantees
its ceiling panels and grid for 10
years when installed together.
Guaranteed to start on
the first or second pull.
That's the new starting guarantee from Toro. The only
starting guarantee of its kind in the industry. How does it work?
Simple. If a new Guaranteed To Start powered Toro lawn
mover fails to start on one or two pulls for 2 years..Torn will fix
it free.. Yes. free. Now that's a guarantee you can count on.Pull -
after pull. Come in and see the new Guaranteed To Steil 2 -cycle
engine today. See.you at the Home & Garden Show
