Exeter Hawks completed a four
game sweep of their best -of -seven
series against Brussels Bulls with a
4-2 win on foreign ice Sunday after-
noon.
Praising his team for their efforts,
coach Dave Bogart said Monday he
was surprised at Brussels early de-
mise.
"It's been the best four games
they've (Hawks) played in succes-
sion in the whole year," Bogart
said. "They surprised me. I didn't
expect to put Brussels out in four
straight."
"Everybody played. well," Bogart
noted. "We stayed away from stupid
penalties and we executed every-
thing perfectly.
"Our line-up seemed more bal-
anced than theirs. We seemed to
come at them more consistently
than they did."
The win earns the team a berth in
advance to OHA finals
the OHA finals against Lambeth.
That series starts Friday night in
Lucan at 8:30 p.m.
Lambeth was the only team to go
through the season unscathed by
Hawks. Exeter recorded one loss and
one tic against them.
Bogart stressed the efforts of the

Morrissey and Jason Leslie. Casey
scored three of Exeter's four goals
Sunday in Brussels.
"That line has been the most con-
sistent line in the playoffs," Bogan
said: "They're always giving 100
percent. It's good because they're
setting the pace and the rest of the
guys are picking up on it."
The two tennis tied 1-1 in the
first p eri(xfand then matched goals
in •the. second. Using power plays
to their advantage in the third,
Hawks notched two unanswered
goals to clinch the series. •

The Exeter \lea's Recreational
Fasthall League collapsed last week
after what was to be their first

Only the Blue Crew and Exeter
Inndians registered for the season.
While teams from Chisclhurst and

participation in the league, l;sbornc
representative Rob Nlorcly said that
he could not field a team. Mount
Cannel Bullets were also unsure of
•their future.

is little chance for the league to sur-
vive.
The League, established in 1972,
had 15 teams in its membership at
its peak four years ago. Last year,
only eight teams were on the organ-
iiation's roster. •
League presidqnt Dave Urlin said
Monday that fastball has been grad-
ually giving way to slo-pitch in the
last few years.
"Its- (fastball) just been going
slowly down -hill with a lack of •
pitchers and that," Urlin said.
"The problem -is -- with slo-pitch,
everybody gets to play. The hall is
hit to everybody and everybody hits
the ball," Urlin explained, noting a

That the series went five games is
an organizers dream, but it is a

the series will follow next week.

day night in game four of the Exet-
er -Lanark Flyers Hardy Cup scrics,
losing 7-2:
That loss followed 4-2 and 7-2
wins for Mohawks after they got
off to a shakcy start against the
hard-hitting Lanark Flyers by los-
ing 8-4 Friday night.
Mohawks coach Jim Guenther
compared Monday's loss to the first
game of the series.
"It's funny how it happens,"
Guenther said after the game Mon-
day night. "For whatever .reason,
the atmosphere (on the ice) seems
to be similar to game one.
"Wc just didn't get rolling. I
think everybody was just waiting
for it to happen and it just didn't
happen."
Guenther also cited the rough
play of game three in which •Kraut
was eliminated from the Zinc -up
with a jaw broken in two places.
t An incident like that, Guenther
says, makes you re-evaluate your
.reasons for playing hockgy.
"It's a working guy's hockey
club. When a guy gets his jaw
broken in two places and his teeth
..
knocked out, they have to'sit back
and wonder if this is what it's all
about," Guenther noted.
Kraui had his jaw wired in hospi-
tal Monday night. Sochncr, who
has chipped bones i -n• his ankle,
watched from the sidelines as his
fellow iefencemcn were gradually
eliminated from thc game:
Dale Timmcrmans was thrown

chances in the .first period Monday
night at the Lucan Community
-Centre. Tim Osher finally cashed in
when he scored from Dennis La -
pensee and Dennis Giacobbi at
14:54. •
Mohawks replied at 17:39 when
,Paul Kalbfleisch slid the puck
across the Lanark goal mouth to a
waiting Dave Randcrson who
punched it home. Paul Barton also
drew an assist on the play.
Mohawks out -shot Flyers 11-5 in
the first period.
The two teams were locked in a
1-1 tie as they entered the second,
but Barton quickly put Mohawks
,out in front -with a goal from Quin-

the game.
After killing off a two-man disad-
vantage, Lanark came on strong,
scoring three second period goals..
Dean Molinski, Peter Chiarclli
and Giacobbi all found the mark.
Mohawks effort continued to
crumble in the third.
Robbie Moore, Bob Brayton and
Brent Cater added goals in the final
frame to finish the game.
Exeter goalie Rick Pikul was
pulled from the net and replaced
with Palmerston pick-up Dan
O'Connor with six minutes remain-
ing in the game.

Mohawks were stilted and stiff
Friday night when the two teams
met for the first time and -as a re-
sult, Lanark came out on the high
side of an 8-4 score.
Flyers hit thc ice with a bang in
the first period, exhibiting some in-
tensive forcchecking and playing it
tough in the corners. In contrast,
Mohawks looked misscd,matched.
Afterward, Guenther pointed to
the fact that the team hadn't been in
a game situation since they finished
their scrics against Durham Hu-
skies two weeks ago. '11tc lay-off
seemed to take ifs toll on Exeter.
Guenther also noted that it was
